No I didn't reinforce it. Not only that, I need to update with a newer photo- I have since attached a 2 bike rack on the back of the bracket holding the tool box. I only haul one bike on it, but it's still sturdy. I did make a point to not put anything heavy in the box: It holds the above mentioned sewer and water items plus plastic leveling plates and lightweight bulky items (football, etc).
It does slightly bounce, but the torque does not appear to be close to a level that would cause it to fail.
