Looking at The Big Buy

Evening all!

We are looking at getting a Forest River XLR Thunderbolt 415AMP.

We would like your input as to the quality, the good, the bad and the ugly of this Toy Hauler.

We are about 6 to 8 months from making the purchase.

All input is helpful

Thank you all

WE recommend you spend some time (at least a half day) sitting in and looking at the coach you have selected. This additional time spent in the "decision mode" could lead to discovering there are some shortfalls to the floor plan. I thought I had found the perfect floor plan for us on line. When we went to the dealership to look at the real thing we found we did not like it at all. We waited for a different floor plan to arrive from the factory about 6 weeks later. Once again we spent a day going over/under/through the coach before pulling the trigger. With this large of an investment we were glad we spent the extra time. Good luck!
  • Thanks CabinetmakerII

We spent a few hours in it and plan on going up next weekend to look at it again
  • We are kind of surprised as to the input we have received. We do not want to start a debate on brands we are just requesting information on the XLR Brand.
  • :h I'm confused, you've had one reply that seems very polite and offered advice, no deletes either. Remember it's labor day weekend, people are out camping. In the mean time you can search XLR here to read some past comments.
  • Y-Guy Thxs, I guess I kind of forget about holidays. I have search for XLR and have read all of those. We already have questions to ask the dealer and are going up this weekend to spend some time in the Unit. Just don't want to spend that much on something that is not dependable or there is issues with getting warranty things corrected.
  • We were in between brands as well! We liked the 380AMP vs. 3895 Voltage! Did allot of research and there was "NO PERFECT TOY HAULER"... if we could put certain things from the XLR and things from the Voltage and make the perfect rv.. that would have been awesome. We ordered a 2014 3895 Voltage, and took delivery on 5/5.... we liked the inside of it better than the XLR..... The dealer was here in Houston and the dealer for the XLR was in Waco 220 miles away, so we just thought if we had problems with the unit we could work better with Camping World. They both had almost all the same componets and options as the other one did. So its had it's issues, but Camping Workld has stepped up to the plate and been very helpful and easy to work with. So we feel we've made the right choice. God bless and good luck with your purchase!
  • Having a dealer that will work with you and help you get things resolved from manufactor will help you TONS!
  • I just looked at the floor plan and that would not work for us!

When we travel, we will stop for lunch and potty break using our TH!
It does not look like you can get to the fridge with the slide in.
    Just my 2 cents!
  • Been pretty busy, so sorry if this response is late. Have an XLR 35x12. Traded a Raptor that was notrhing but problems. Had warranty issues with both, but dealing with Keystone made me want to never go camping again, and dealing with Forest River restored my faith in companies standing behind their product. Again-just my experience. As far as the floorplan, we got this before the 380 AMP came out. Would have much rather had that floorplan- wife misses the 2 bathroom setup. We were in a 386x12 at a campground a wife didn't like that floorplan at all. Some issues I don't like- we put a queen mattress in the front bed and it leaves hardly any room between end of bed and wall. Also put a queen mattress on top rack of garage, and being thicker than the foam they use it blocks the A/C vents when it's up. The stair access to the front room is also a little narrow for my taste, and I'm not real wide either! Those AMP packages also seem to add a lot of weight, think maybe because they add more options. I saw they recently changed the weight of the 380, not sure why. Was really surprised that after 1 1/2 years and maybe 4000 miles it blew a front tire already.
