Big Popups? HW296 Alternatives?

That is one heavy unit! 5k for a pop up is crazy. You're going to need a 1 ton to pull it. ;)

Not quite that much, more like 3K. I understand the concern about Berkshire Hathaway's FR, where production quota's are more important than anything else.

I think I'd be perusing RV Trader for a used one. 'Tis the season for late model campers to be for sale.

Ha! She's a big girl. Stand's 6'9" tall closed and has tandem axles.

Yeah, I'm torn between a new one that will live in the shop getting rebuilt after the first couple of months of use or a used one that that's already had most of the loose screws fall out (and some of them put back in).

A bit smaller in length but still will sleep 6 is the Somerset E3. However, its a lot lighter to tow - GVWR 3500 lbs.

Pups sure are cool. But a majority of gear is carried in trucks. I cringe at the thought of 6 in a pup.

6 bags of clothes. 10 towels. Food for 6. Not one pup made Ever!

Listed UVW is 3721lbs with 1278lbs CCC equals 4,999lbs which is more like 5k.

LOL, you guys and the 1 ton comments are cracking me up. I can fit 6 and luggage for a week in the tow vehicle now. Towels can go in the pup. This is mostly for long weekends anyway. Storage won't be an issue... and regarding 6 in a pup, it's a high wall 14' box with a U dinnette slide and jack knife sofa. We did 4 in an 8' box across the country and back. This thing will be a palace. ;)

With bikes and gear we'll be nearing 5k on the road. Might need to check the axle ratings and see how much more I can get out of it. :)

Seems like you're trying to talk yourself into this 6 person in a popup scenario. Having owned 4 over the years I can tell you that sleeping 6 in one is possible, but don't ever expect it not to be uncomfortable and a royal PITA with a capital P.

We had a Coleman Avalon, that's a highwall with a 16' box, tandem axle. Most likely the largest popup ever offered. I would never have considered 6 people on even a long weekend trip in that thing as I would not have wanted to go through all the work involved.

Get lots of plastic bins.....and a truck with a cab high fiberglass cap and 8' bed, as you'll need it. You can say storage will not be an issue all you want but it will.

Why not a 3 bunk hybrid? You can probably get out the door pricing less than the FR highwall if you play the cards right.

I’ll check out that Avalon. I’d rather have a used Coleman than a new Forest River.

Why no hybrid? Popups feel more like camping and we don’t fit in the current popup anymore (Shasta 8’ box). The motorhome is great but it’s not camping IMO.
