Looking for a new full time TH

I new to the forum so bare with me on this. I am looking to buy a full time bumper tow toy hauler. I can not pull a 5th wheel due to the fact I have a lifted truck and I don't care to get into lifting the trailer. I would like to keep it between 30 to 40 foot range maybe bigger. I definitely want a separate garage/cargo area.
The toy hauler would be used to live in full time for about 2 years while I am moved around the Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, and Mississippi area for work. It would be used to sleep 1 adult and (2) 100 pound dogs. I am looking to keep a motorcycle, atv, and a gun safe in the cargo area.

I have been looking at:
Forest River- Nitro XLR
Vengeance
Work and Play
Keystone- Impact
Carbon
Dutchmen- Razorback
Rubicon
Heartland- Edge
Torque
Gulfstream- wide open
Jayco- octane

I know 2 air conditioners is a must and I would like an open floor plan. Any help on what brands to stay away from and problems is appreciated. Thanks
  • One of the largest RV shows in country will be in Hershey Pa next month. Even though we're pretty sure on a Cyclone we're going just to see if their are other floor plans that are comparable from other manufactures. You might think of doing the same.

RV Outlet is in Danville, Va.. Not extremely far from Tn..

Probably the biggest toy hauler dealership on the east coast and in my opinion, the best prices.

Thanks that's good to know. The dealers around don't really stock much in the line of toy haulers. So it's hard telling what they look like other than by pictures and floor plans.

Where in the northeast are you? Willing to drive to southern Va.?

    RV Outlet

In my opinion, the best place for toy haulers on the east coast.
  • Ok I will check them out and I guess what I mean by an open floor plan is have a slide out in the living area and try to get around having an island if possible.
  • You said you want a garage and an open floor plan..usually the 2 are different. There are several bumper pulls in that size range, most of your list is just mass-produced trailers and will probably have some type of problem with them in the beginning if you buy new. I know our Keystone has very poor insulation in it when trying to cool it down when it is hot outside. None are really built for full - timing. Depends on how fancy you want to get with the interior.I would probably add KZ to your list of trailers to look at.

  • The Work & Play will be heavy but will probably be the toughest one of the bunch. But it won't be the "nicest". We have one for our races.

At our races, its "run what you brung". They are XC races so the camping area is typically some farmer's field. You bring your own water, electricity, and whatever else you need. Plus getting there can be a challenge. But the Work & Play is made for that.

So long story short about ours: I wouldn't trade it for anything while we're doing the races. But when we're done racing, I'll trade it in a heartbeat for something nicer.
  • The atv, motorcycle, and safe should weight only 1300 pounds. I have a 2011 chevy 2500hd diesel to pull with. It's rated to pull 13,000 pound.
  • That could be some heavy gear. Any estimate on what the bike, atv and gun safe weigh?

Giving stats on your tow vehicle would help, too.
