In the market for a new fifth wheel and the 3711FL Montana has caught our eye.

We will be moving from Texas to Colorado in Spring of 2017 and intend to full time.

Anyone here with first-hand experience with Keystone Montana? I'd also appreciate any input on other cold weather options. We would like to survive a Colorado winter ๐Ÿ™‚

I think you would be fine with the Montana. I know we love ours but if I were you I would order it from the factory set up with dual pane windows, 614LT tires and the legacy package so you get the MCD day/night shades. And any other goodies you want from the start. I think Montana is really missing the boat by not offering disc brakes from the factory but we had them installed the first month we owned it and it's night and day compared to the drum brakes. Good luck.

We have also been very happy full timing in a Montana for 6 years. South East Tennessee is as far north as we have been in winter and I wouldn't want to go farther in anyone's fifth wheel. Brrrrrrrrrrrr.

I'm in agreememt with Jack Spratt. We fulltimed for 4 years in our Montana 3455SA in Victoria, BC. It would drop to freezing on some nights but we did fine. A 250 litre propane tank helped and we had an auxilary heater for really cold nights. Also had a bed warmer. I loved climbing under those warm sheets on a cold night.

We snowbird in ours 6 months of the year in SC where the temps drop to the freezing
point frequently. Our Montana seems to do as well as most and better than some.
Newer models offer more insulation.

Ask on the Montana Owners Club forum. There are many there who full time in their Montanas, including one who did/does it in Alaska as well as some in other northern states. I think most do snowbird though.

You might look for an owner's group to ask more actual owners these questions. They are your best resource

Well, Keystone states "4 season living," and ours is certainly better than any previous RV we've owned, but I seriously doubt deep-freeze winters would be very comfortable. Nothing in the Keystone literature says FT invalidates your warranty. It has no problem cooling in near 100 degree and high humidity conditions in FL. The front LR stays cool. Take a look at the lack of storage if you're considering FT. We knew up front but we pack fairly light and it hasn't been a problem although I don't consider us true full-timers. There are higher quality makes for FT, but you'll pay a high price for one.

Full-timing in the Montana won't be any big deal until the temps get real cold come winter. For starters, 5th wheels have lousy insulation. If you rely on your two propane tanks for heat you'll be paying loads to fill them up lots. Will the park have non-frozen water available to you? I've stayed in places where the pipes froze and it wasn't even winter. Will there be snow on your roof? On top of your slides? Me, I wouldn't camp in those kinds of temps for extended periods.
