Looking for Roadside Assistance Plan

So I pull my 5er with a custom built 2009 Freightliner Class 8 truck. It is like a semi truck except I have a Western Hauler bed that I can haul a Smart Car on and a fifth wheel hitch mounted on the rear. All commercial towing equipment has been removed. Because it is a converted semi the Good Sam RV Roadside Plan isnt eligible. Does anyone use anything else?
  • Thanks - Can you reach out to me via private message with your contact information? I'll contact you directly. Thank you.
  • Darren - seems that the person I spoke to wasnt familiar with that aspect of the policy. Would love for someone to call me and to discuss getting set up. The Freightliner had all commercial towing equipment removed and the bed converted for pulling my fifth wheel only.I do have pictures to show that and the truck registration was recently redone as well.
  • Yes, we have roadside assistance on our auto insurance and we have AAA. But we also have Good Sam Roadside Assistance. We have had to use it three times. Once our fifth-wheel had to be loaded on to a low-boy trailer and carried 80 miles to the next city. I don't think either auto or AAA would have been prepared for that kind of assistance. Both other times it was also better that we had Good Sam because it was our trailer that had to be "towed."

I think road side assistance specific to the RV is far preferable--I consider it necessary.

Asked my insurance agent about getting an RSA plan and he said I'm already covered in my policy and don't need RSA. He said just pay for the tow or whatever is needed and my insurance will reimburse me. Sounds good to me. I don't have to pay extra for a separate RSA plan and I can call anyone I want for help.

So if your truck breaks down will the RSA through your ins company also find a place for your trailer or will they leave that on the side of the highway?

and will the cover you on a dirt road?

    FWIW
My agent told me the same thing but when I started asking for more detail on the roadside coverage I could tell he was very unsure of his answers

Anyhow, I contacted my ins company and they said no roadside assit without buying the rider policy. The cost was $20 per vehicle

  • Thanks jimlocke62 for the post - I wanted to clarify that your Freightliner would be covered by Good Sam Roadside Assistance unless it is registered by a business, or being used for any commercial or business purposes. Glad to discuss with you further if you'd like - you can post here or send me a private message.

    Thanks again.
