Motorhomes and Oceano dunes

Not sure if I should have posted this in the class A section but I'm thinking there will be more experience in this forum.

I have a friend bringing his class A out to the dunes to camp with me. I've been going there for the last ten years with my fifth wheel, so I know about airing down and coming in at low tide. Is there anything else that's going to help out my buddy when he bring his motorhome out there? One issue I already see is his front valance is so low, I don't think there is any place I can hook up the tow strap to if he needs a tug.

I lived just up the road from the Grand Ave. ramp from '79 to '81 while attending Cal Poly, back when the beach was free and wide open. Spent many a day watching idiots crossing the creek at high tide and during a storm. Was cheap entertainment, just the cost of a 6 pack!

Wow. I thought I lived far out of town. I was on South Higuera down past the cemetery and the drive-in.

You had a pretty long commute to get to class.

yes, moved there after we got married, cheapest rent we could find and afford plus very good friends lived close by. Most days the DW and I went in together; she had a job in downtown SLO. Some very great memories of living up there, wish I'd stayed. Now go up to visit those same friends and my son and his family, usually at Nacimiento.

Would you put YOUR new toy on that sand patch?

Not a chance. I've never been a sand guy.

Same here, my son now lives in Paso and wants me to drag my trailer up there. While I like riding in sand in the desert a steady diet like dunes doesn't look like fun. Plus would need a paddle and whip. Now if it were like when I lived up there and you could ride to/around Oso Flaco and to Devil's Slide, might be a different story.

Attended Poly from 95-99. After a good storm roomates and I would grab a case of beer and head out to the creek and pop a lawn chair. Good times...

This is only what someone would have to contend with after HEAVY rains in the area. No creek crossing this time of year.

Yes Sir....The worst part now is the dreaded...." Turn Around ". Meaning , that you have to turn around at the end to go back the way you came and to put your entrance door on the correct side.

Lopez creek? You mean Arroyo Grande creek?

No, its non existent this time of year. Still a good idea to traverse the beach at low tide as you have a lot more room to manuever.

Do they even have to worry about high tide and Lopez Creek with the drought?
