Am curious. Were the failures sidewall "Blowouts" i.e. Run low flex failures or were they belt/tread separations?

Significant different condition with very different causes.

Sorry how the BFG dealer treated you, thats crazy. Like I said, if you still have documentation I'd at the very least try to escalate it to Michelin. Try that 800 # in my link. Worst they could say is no...

And that BS about not for a trailer, Danger danger bs crap, well if they really believe that bs, then its got to go back on the dealer that installed those on your trailer, yes..? Why would they put you in danger...?

Actually many LT tires are rated for trailer use. The Ribs are for sure. IIRR, on the Comp TA Commercial web site back when I got mine,said they were also rated for trailer use.

Just goes to show how 2 people can have very different experiences with the same problem.

Bottom line for me,and the vast majority of the Toy Hauler world, ST tires blow out much more often then LT tires,,, if good LT tires blow out at all...?

Allcool-Good to hear that they took care of you. Just prior to the recall I had a busted belt on the rear of my truck. The dealer got it prorated at 50% and I paid full price for a new new on the same axle. The recall followed a month or two later on my 245/75R16's. The only tires on the recall were the two NEW tires I had replaced on my truck while traveling and not on my trailer. Local dealer did not want to help. When I called the BFG line they told me to go to the local Bridgestone/Firestone dealer.:S. You can imagine what that dealer had to say. Finally a trip back to the Michelin dealer got me 2 new tires. Guess what. They were on the recall and had to be sent back.

The blowout I had were own my camper-BFG Commercial T/A's 225/75R16 that replaced the ST 225/75R15's. 5200 # axles. These tires were not on the recall list but I have since found several websites where people have had the same problem on their vehicles as I did. One tire blew out and another two had broken belts. Slight damage to my 5er. A call to the BFG line went:
"I have one blowout and 2 busted belts on my T/A's" His response: "Sorry to hear about that let me try to help you. What vehicle were they on?"
My response:"They were on my camper"
His response:" Sorry but you placed those tires in an application they were not approved for." Then another 5 minutes listening to him tell me how dangerous I had placed myself in and blah, blah blah.

From what I gather most people are satisfied with how they were treated with the recall but I believe that is because their dealers were responsive and treated them as customers rather than a bother. I am making an assumption that most of the recalls were handled by the dealer with BFG taking a back seat unless they were contacted by owners. I have read a number of posts about some contacting BFG and told their tires in trailers were under warranty but I know from my standpoint that they were not responsive to me and denied warranty. I have wondered if the BFG contacts were/are all on the same page.

If you search my posts going back to last August you can find more details on my problem.

A tip that may be helpful is to register your tires in the event of a recall or safety issue. None of the tires on my truck had been registered by the dealer when purchased and none of the Firestone Transforce on my camper were registered by the dealer.

As some of you may remember,after getting some good recommendations here, I originally went with 7, 235/85 16E BFG Comp TA commercial.

Only got about 500miles on them, they seemed to tow great.
Then got the recall notice for the 848,000 BFG Comp TA tire recall.

Discount tire installed 7 brand new Michelin XPS Ribs on my TOYHAULER in place of my BFG Comp TA commercial tires, NO CHARGE, all under the tire recall warranty.

It makes me even a more loyal Michelin customer to see how they treated me when there is a problem.

Did you get the recall letter...? or call the 800 recall #...?
1 call to Michelin/BFG about the recall, and my set of Ribs were waiting for me at my choice of any Discount Tire store.

If you have documentation/bills with dot # for the defective Comp Ta tires you replaced, check to see if they were part of the recall. With what happened to your tires, sounds like they were part of the recall. If so then see if they will reimburse you for the replacement Firestone tires you had to buy...

Michelin also pro rated my 7 XPS Ribs on my TOYHAULER for ozone cracking. They were great to deal with and all they asked was what the tread depth was.

Hard to tell without seeing a clear picture. Many confuse tread/belt separation (usually due to long term excess heat and rubber degradation) and "Run Low Sidewall Flex (usually due to the tire leaking air while you continue down the road.
You might do search on word "blowout" and I am confident you will find some actual tire engineers providing the answer.

Lets note several sizes of the 16" LT E BFG Commercial were on national recall for tread separation issues on all vehicles. A google gives all the facts.

The LT E BFG Commercial were one of the mainstay LT tires for our trucks and trailers for over 20+ years before a change in material supplier in the late '00s (Michelin wording) was believed to have caused product issues (also Michelins wording).

The BFG Commercial T/A 2 is the new replacement tire.

One of my commercially registered GN trailers has BFG Commercials with a '06 dot date and have a full BFG registered warranty.

My present RV has four LT E BFG Commercial with a '12 dot date. They also have a full BFG warranty and registered with BFG through my BFG truck tire dealer. He explained the reasons BFG or any tire makers may not recommend a replacement, or honor, a warranty. Its a liability wording game.
