seeing as how this is now a Chinese Bomb thread ;-)
The issue with Chinese manufacturing is mostly one of supervision by the company employing the Chinese facility. Some companies just toss over specs and think that they will be adhered to. However then you find out that they will substitute rubber o-rings when you specified neoprene (for example).. same thing right? Of course not, however in my experience that's how they operate IF you don't make sure they understand what you require.
Years back Fram farmed out motorcycle oil filter to a factory in Mexico and they switched o-ring materials.. Fram spin-on filters were banned from motorcycle racing for years due to that.... and Fram never recalled them at all (I had one dump oil on my rear wheel..)
I hold the brand responsible, not where it's made.. I think that blaming China is encouraged, deflect blame from where it should really be directed.
