- bazdadExplorerThanks everyone for their reply's. My generator is a 3100 and while the air conditioner is running it has a 10-12 amp draw. I think that maybe a call to champion would answer my question. Thanks for reply's. If this old man knew how I would post a picture of how it is mounted on the rear bumper.
- TheAmRheinsExplorerI have a question. Couldn't you build a capacitor box and plug it into the generator and then plug the camper to that to help with all hard starting appliances?
- HvyhaulerExplorerX2 on the hard start capacitor kit, the compressor in my Lance truck camper Dometic ac was having a problem kicking on and really drawing the power down.
I ordered and installed the hard start cap kit and the problem was solved immidiately. The replacement was done in 2011 and its still going strong. - laknoxNomadYou can also install a hard start capacitor on the A/C to help with the load on the genny. One of the things I like about some of the Yamahas is that they have a "burst" capability, where they actually pull power from the starting battery for about 10 seconds, when an extra load is demanded...like when starting an A/C.

I have a Champion 75537i and a 15,000 btu ac. Most of the time it will start it ok in eco mode. I have found It kind of depends on what else you have running. For the first start, I usually leave the eco mode off. I am really enjoying this generator.
X2 on leaving the eco mode off the first time you fire up the AC. I have two 2000i's in parallel, and fried the control unit in one of them while in eco mode when the AC made a sudden demand. Better to be safe than sorry. - KountryguyExplorerI have a Champion 75537i and a 15,000 btu ac. Most of the time it will start it ok in eco mode. - I would not run in economy mode. When the AC unit tries to kick in, the genset may not react fast enough to carry the start up load.
- KountryguyExplorerWhat Champion do you have?
- 2oldmanExplorer IIWhat do you mean 'installing'? These portable gens (if that's what you have) are not supposed to be run inside.
- TucsonJimExplorer IIYep, you can run it in economy mode and save a little fuel. The genset will ramp up when the compressor is running, and back off when it's not. I run my Honda in economy mode 99% of the time. The only time I don't is when it's very cold out. I let it warm up for a few minutes before switching it to economy.
