New to 5th wheels

So After a lot of deliberation, I’ve settled on a Shasta Phoenix 355FBX. I’ve had travel trailers for the last 12 years. This will be my first 5ver. I’m having the Reese Goosebox 16k installed as it will be easiest since my other trailers (horse, equipment) are also gooseneck.

What else should I be thinking about when switching to the new platform?

For instance, I already have X-chocks, so those should transfer.

Additional stabilizers needed? (Has 4 point elec leveling system)


This will have 2 sewer outlets. Should they just be Y connected together?

    In many states you will need safety chains for your Goosebox unless you have already planned for them. An additional bed plug for your umbilical cord is handy, but not mandatory. A secure hold for your breakaway cable will be needed as your only truck hold is the gooseneck ball. Accommodations for all the big stuff you put under the canopy of your truck like bicycles and ladders might be necessary.

    I use my sewer Y with FHU but just move the hose at a dump. Black, then bath gray. The kitchen tank goes last and is plenty soapy to not need much rinsing afterwards.

    With the 4 point leveling system, you'll likely need some thing to help at the rear. The Morryde X Brace will work, but if you don't have a hitch, try the Valterra stabilizer. It looks cheesy, but it really works. We have one for our 17,000 lb. toyhauler and it keeps the rear pretty darned solid.

    Think about adding Sumo springs in place of the bump stops. Easy to do it yourself. It really helped smooth out the ride while towing my fifth wheel.

    My son in law has an RV with 2 sewer outlets.. He has 2 sets of everything running to a "Y" then into the sewer...

    Depending on the RV, you MAY need stabilization in the front, a set of JT Strongarms are awesome ! - JT's

    OR - Morryde also

    IF the rear leveling jacks are too far forward, you MAY need something closer to the rear?? Morryde X brace

    OR add 2 bolt on scissor jacks and this -

    Of course! First thing that goes down before unhooking. X-chocks on after my TT is leveled.
