We have purchased a new 2014 model year trailer from a private party (they bought it new in Oct). It is a triple axle with 225 75 15 Tow Masters not sure if they are D or E but it doesn't matter because they are not staying on the unit. The axles are 33" spaced so they have room for a 16" with 225 75 16.I have also considered the Maxxis LRE in the stock size but after the bad luck I have had with ST tires I really want to put some Duravis R250s on this thing and never worry about it.Is my only concern the clearance to the underside of the trailer?Will the larger tires impact turning, deflection of tires, or anything I have not even considered with the triple axle?

Lots of 5th wheel triple-axle Toy Haulers.They might be a great source for info.(IMO) very few of the TH folks will see your post on this forum.You might ask on the Toy Hauler forum - after modifying thetitle - as no duplicate threads are allowed..;).

I too would be concerned if I had Tow Master ST tires on a heavy unit. You can go to the tire manf. websites and find the tire width, and hight to see if you have enough clearance for a different size tire.And you will have to buy 6 new rims if you change from 15 to 16 inch tires.I replaced Tow Masters with Maxxis, 4 years ago, and I am totally happy with them. I don't know how many miles I have put on them, but it includes three coast to coast trips. They are pretty good tires within their weight range.

The LT E at 80 psi has much less carcass flex trhan the softer sidewall 65 psi D tire. I see the 15" ST225/75 -15 has a 8.8" over all width vs 9" over all width for the LT225/75-16" which = around .10 wider on each side. I doubt you will have any issue with tire rub especially with the stiffer LT E carcass. The LT225/75-16 E shows a 29.4" dia vs the ST225/75-15 D or E at 28.3" dia.I have 5200 lb tandem axles with std leaf spring suspension on my 5er and 16" LT215/85 E tires. I have 2 3/4" clearance at the top. No rub issues. My tire dealer will mount different sizes of tires on my trailers if need to get proper clearance. Your area tire dealer may also help you in that area as you are buying 6 tires from him. I still use the OEM 15" ST as a spare and has never on the ground.

Before you leave, I believe it is in your best interest to step up and switch to 16" rims and use LT tires! It will put tire problems behind you for many years. Chris

JimLin is correct .
There are way too many MX x 2 posters around that believe there is a free lunch .
You have to pay for quality .
Specifically the Duravis models of Bridgestone are more money than their lower lines .
And are better tires .
An identical size of Duravis to the cheaper Bridgestone models often weighs 1 to 3 pounds more .
More cords & rubber = more weight .

I have 2500 miles on a set of six maxxis ST tires, no pressure or temp issues...funny how that happens too!

I have 46k miles on my LT tires on my RV trailer and usually get 60k-70k miles on my other trailers with LT tires. I wouldn't say it was funny but for me its expected.

The OPs commercial grade LT tires is a huge advancement over any ones ST tires and even a fabric carcass LT tire. The commercial grade Bridgestones were a excellent upgrade for any trailer.

My dealer told me the Tow Master tire was the brand he recommends to all his customers, including me, had them installed on my cruiser, have had no problems with two trips south for the winters! will keep an eye on them,reading some of the issues on these forums makes me want to just quite traveling.

I would check the construction note on the side wall. If the tires have been manufactured with the nylon cap over the steel belts that is an indicator that they are the new construction. The construction note, load range E and being manufactured 2010 or after would indicate that you might have some good tires. If all of these metrics line up, I would take it to the scales loaded and do complete loads study. Three axels and load range E tires you might be ok. I ran Ameritrac made by Unicon tire for four years without an issue. You can't judge today's ST tires based on the old construction reports. Times have moved on.

The original tires were d rated 15" st. They had the stamped weight capacity but we all know that is a "yeah sure" number designed to make you feel good as they go boom. The new r250 16" are on and look and ride great. Amazingly the old 15" rims were not even rated for an amount equal to or above the tires!
