One Butt Kitchens

Why would more than 1 person need to be in the kitchen area anyway? If its another beer you want, she can get it since she's already there!:B
Really though, if you want to be in that area with more than one person, I would look for something with out the island. That looks like a nice set up though and the DW talks wanting that set up often.

We had one like that for 6 years - it was wonderful. We bought it for the counter space. It had terrific serving space, a whole bunch of overhead cupboards (less that your pic) and we never had a issue passing each other in that space, nor did we ever notice it to be a burden.

We know have the island, which has it's features too, but right away we notice the lack of cupboards over the counter.

What would you prefer..........

We have a 'U' shaped kitchen so we do the roundy-roundy moving counterclockwise kitchen dance.

Well we really enjoy our 2 butt kitchen! Lots of counter space with sink and stove open, and enough room for two at a time.
We went to the Salem RV show this weekend, and the "New Thing" seems to use Corian counter tops to cover the sink and range. This gives the illusion of a large counter surface, when it is quite small.

That is one reason we keep our 1996/2010 Carriage, we redid the inside and outside to make her look new again. What an open floor plan we have. Even though Dutch doesn't cook, there are lots of times we are both in that area at the same time & the only time we bump butts if if we mean too! My layout gives me plenty of counter space :R:p. Everything we have looked at in last several years has a counter top.
Plus with our layout we can get to everything with the slides closed. What a bonus if you want to heat coffee, have lunch or watch a bit of TV. Hugs, Di

We don't have a floor plan like that, but that's what I called the "dead end kitchen". I automatically ruled out any unit with that feature when we were shopping. I did see it in action one weekend when a friend brought one like that camping. We were in and out of the unit and kitchen a lot as we were having a cookout, setting up a meal outside for about 20 people. It convinced me not to get one unless I wanted to be the only person in there, handing things out from the fridge and cabinets.

The way I see it, Ed could dry dishes standing on the other side of the counter.... ;-)

We have a one butt trailer. No slide and limited space through out. My DW and I split the cooking related duties similar to how we do it at home. I do most, if not all of the cooking and she does the clean up.
A lot of my cooking is done outside too, so the kitchen really doesn't make that much difference to me. I prefer to cook on my camp stove and in my Dutch ovens. We don't have an oven in the TT anyway. I usually set up a cooking table where I do my prep and cooking. I may occasionally ask the wife to hand me something out of the fridge, but I now have a Coleman 12V cooler/warmer that I keep outside.
We are in the market for a new TT and one of our primary criteria's is an outside kitchen.
Of course we generally only camp on weekends and a 2 week vacation during the summer. If we were full time then I would definitely want a large indoor kitchen, though not necessarily a 2 butt one, since I still prefer to do all the cooking by myself.
Oh...almost forgot to add. When I'm planning my meals for a trip, I often prepare as much as I can in advance such as chopping, etc. and store in either Ziploc bags or I now have a food saver that vacuum seals foods. Actually I frequently do this even when I'm not camping. For instance, if I'm preparing fajitas for a meal I will usually cook 2-10 times as much as I need and freeze the rest in various portions that I label with contents, date and # of servings. If I'm chopping onions, peppers, etc. I always store the extra in vacuum sealed bags as well. With a little pre-planning you can make anything work for you.

Our first fiver had a "one butt" kitchen as on OPs picture...hated it. Now have a rear kitchen and LOVE it! Yes, everything is still in place when we arrive at destination. Plenty of room for 2 at one time in kitchen. Also when one enters the rig you enter the living room instead of seeing the kitchen sink. :B

Our prior trailer we could trap each other in. Drove us nuts at times. Current trailer is all open and we lost some counter space but we get along fine. I thought about a portable island but after using it as for awhile we wouldn't give up the open area for more counter space or an island. Shortest and roomiest trailer we owned.
