Opinions on Pilgrim Open Road 378

Hi All,

New to the forums but not new to RV's. My wife and I are considering purchasing a used 2007 Open Road 378SA4S. We absolutely love the floorplan. I know Pilgrim is out of business but curious how well these models hold up. Are there any gotcha's or weak points with them?? I have read about issues with the weak pinbox but am not too concerned about it because we won't be doing much long distance traveling with it. Also where can you get manuals or parts?

Thanks,

Steve
  • Steve,

We had a 2006 36RLDS for 3 years and the Lippert frame crapped out in the back. Cracks on the rear corners of both rear slides were indicators. Turns out frame lost cantiliver. Totalled ($18k!! To fix) a great looking inside and out, and wonderful floorplan. Would have still been a great park-site unit, but that isn't what we wanted.

Go to the forum mentioned. Many have no such problems, but enough do. The pinbox can be strengthened pretty easily if done in advance. There is no cheap cure for a broken rear frame.
  • We have a 2005 Open Road 389RLDS5 w/4 slides and love ours. We have had it just about 3 years, it was a repo when we bought it. Like brand new in and out. Manuals/books...nope. But you can get info on all your appliances online.
There is a Pilgram forum but it does not get a lot of traffic but you may find some good reading. pilgraminternational.yuku.com

Enjoy and welcome to the forum.

  • We purchased an Open Road 359 new in May 07. Each year we travel from Ontario Canada to Arizona. It is still like new inside. The graphics are in new condition. The only thing I have replaced is one recliner, hubby broke handle 2x's and the microwave quit last winter. It has been a great rv and we love the floor plan with the 3 slides. Also love the king bed. Lots of room to spend the winter in. We replaced the chinese tires with the xps ribs, no problems there. Heading out again this october. Love the dedicated desk and tv area for the computer. I have seem the 378, and also love that floor plan. If more questions, just ask. Dona
  • We have a 2007 Legends fifth wheel. Bought it new in 07. It would be a step down from the Open Road, but made by Pilgrim. We have had relativity little trouble with it. The worst thing was a blowout on the right rear wheel which tore up the lower side of the rv. This was in 09 almost exactly two years after purchase. Of course they put on the Chinese tires, and we all know about those tires. After putting on Michelin XPS LT ribs, we have not had problems with those since. We were able to find some parts in Indiana to fix our rv, which we did ourselves. It has been and still is a great fifth wheel in our opinion.
