Over the cab truck rack

I have seen a few pictures of trucks with a rack that goes from the back of the cab to the front bumper. I am wondering if anyone on here has one and if so did you buy it prefab or go have it made custom from a welder?

I have looked all over the search engines and must be using the wrong terminology because I can't find anything.

Thanks

Nice looking setup. I think I will probably best off getting it custom made.

The problem with this US Rack is the fine print- they want less than 1/2 of the boat extending out from the front of the rack. That limits you to pretty short boats.

Me Again's setup is sweet- I'm hoping to replicate much of that so that we can take kayaks (14') to Key West this winter.

Fairly simple. Start with usrack's bed mount. Add a front receiver hitch. Then add an extend-a-bed. You can tie it to the rack or whatever.

    For the rack: http://www.discountramps.com/hitch-bed-extender/p/TBE-48/?CA_6C15C=1783898921
  • I did add another brace that is not showing. Here it is. It goes down to the front of the hitch frame to stop fore and aft movements.

The H Frame behind the cab is a two piece unit that separates at the top of the bed when not used. It J-hooks to tie downs in the bed of the truck and has clip pieces that slide down over the front bed rail.
I bought an used receiver hitch at a junk yard and remade it into the front receiver. Chris

Box lid slides to either side.

We have both changed kayaks so I will have to do things stightly different. The bottom Kayak was a Old Town Vapor 12XL and I now have a Vapor 10. Wifes Pelican 10 is gone and she has an Old Town Dirigo 106. So hers will go on the lower level and mine on the upper level.
