Proper Hitch for Big Country

Hello Everyone. I am looking at purchasing a 2013 Big Country 3450 and need some input as to whether I need a slide hitch or can use a normal hitch due to the 88 degree turning that they promote.

Have found that the trailer saver made by Hensley May work bit want to make sure before I jump in.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.
  • Have a Big Country and haven't needed a slider yet. I have never been in a position to need to turn as sharp as 88% . Hope I never am in that position either. Put a lot of strain on the suspension of the camper to be in that tight of a turn.
  • 88° Heartland here too with a short bed. No slider needed. Yes you have to watch it near full lock as 88 is not 90 but you'll be fine. Some will say you MAY need a full 90 someday. I guess they've never towed a TT... I've been in and out of the tightest of sites and haven't ever had an issue or even come close to one...
  • I had a slider on my short bed F350 and it had the 88° front end on the fiver. I used it every time I backed out of my driveway. Only used it once at a campground and only after I tapped the fivers nose on the trucks roof, that was a tight spot to get into to. I like the adage, its better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it. Its cheap insurance.
  • Sorry. I have a 2013 ram 2500 with Cummings. 6 foot 4 inch box crew cab
  • by TV he means tow vehicle. do you have a long bed or a short bed truck. a short bed you might need a slider. that is why many RV 5th wheel manufactures are redesigning the fronts of their 5th wheels so you can get away from having to buy the higher priced slider hitch.
  • It is 6 feet 4 inches. Heartland says you don't need a slider for short boxes due to the 88 degree from cap
  • If you need it Hensley's Trailersaver air hitch does make an attachment that allows their hitch to be a slider.

Half of your trailer width is 48 1/2", check the distance from where your pin is to where your truck would hit, if more than the above you will hit. I found with our trailer we had 43" and we would hit at about 50 degrees with a 6 foot truck bed. Our new truck is a 8 foot bed Depends on your truck and tailer.

By the way the Trailersaver air hitch is a great hitch, we really like ours.
  • Welcome to the Forum. You didn't say what your TV is. Without that, we don't know if you need a slider or not. If your TV has a regular 8 foot bed, you don't need a slider.
