Proper Wheel Bearing Grease

I am preparing to repack my wheel bearings on our 3070RL with Dexter Axles. I checked the owners manual in the section with the lube chart for the proper grease to be used. I have a can of Pennzoil Wheel Bearing red grease labeled 707L that is a high temp grease. In the manual it says Pennzoil Red synthetic grease. Is this the same type of grease? Thanks, Browntljm.
  • You may be able to search internet for answer; I do know you should not mix synthetic grease with non-synthetics. As far as "proper" lube, a good name brand lithium base grease is all you need. Synthetics are a waste of $$$$ if you follow manufacturers service interval of annual re packing and inspection.
  • The Penzoil greases are not the same. You can use any number of good greases: Mobilgrease XHP 222, Wolf's Head Red Grease or Mobil Ronex. We use the 222 grease.
  • When I bought my previous 5th wheel, 707L was one of Dexter's recommended greases. Used it for the 12 years we owned that rig with no bearing issues.

Can't go wrong with the Pennzoil 707l, it is a good choice. And a suitable grease doesn't have to be red. I don't know how all this color stuff got started. I've seen wheel bearing grease in different colors.
  • 707L is a #2 lithium base grease; Not a synthetic. Do not mix with synthetic.
