Realilistic mileage with a fifthwheel.

Just curious what kind of fuel mileage I can expect with a fifth-wheel.
1ton 4x4 duramax srw 36 Ft. 13Klbs fifth-wheel. I realize weather, road conditions whether it is flat or hills or mountains all can make a big difference. Generally speaking flat lands like the whole god forsaken state of Illinois.

yeap!
I average 9.5mpg towing flat or mountains. it doesn't matter its always right around 9.5. the sweet spot on tachometer is 2000 rpm this seems to get me the best mileage.
but the 5er gets better than the TT did.

Speed and head wind have EVERYHING to do with MPG. We get 10-12 on our 31' mid profile 5th wheel with the Dodge 5.9. If we run 55 or less it can go up to 13+ under ideal conditions in flat country. Non towing it will run between 18-23 depending on speed and conditions. Speed kills MPG!

I am at 8.5 - 10.0 depending on traffic, roads, and my right foot....

Went from 12mpg towing a Jayco 15,000gvw fith wheel to 10mpg towing a Lifestyle 18,000gvw fifth wheel with our 2016 GMC 3500DRW. A lot has to do with front cap design and size. Jayco was 8 inches shorter, 6 inches narrower sloped back. Lifestlye pretty much flat front. We drive 62mph with cruise control.

Diesel or gas will make a difference but figure between 8-12mpg with that size trailer.

9-11 is pretty standard with reasonable speed and terrain. Lots of hills and/or speed you'll be at 9 or a bit below. 55mph on flat land and you can be up around 11-12 or above.

You must do all your towing at 70+, my 01 Ram gets 10 to 12 towing close to 12k. I would not expect much of a change going to a newer Ram.

The old 6.5 GM, the early Duramax and those horrible old tractor engines got better mileage. My 2017 Ford seems to be doing better than my 2016 F350 when running empty. I haven't had an adequate opportunity to check it towing yet.......My '16 does about 10 mpg towing

I’ve got about the same setup as you and get 10-12 mpg towing. Not towing on fwy we get between 20-25 and best 50 mile average at 31 mpg (this afternoon in AZ).

My 3/4 ton 4x4 duramax srw towing a 36 Ft. 13.5 Klbs fifth-wheel at 55 to 60 mph averages 10.5 over a mix of flat land and mountains.
