Just wanted to circle back on this thread now that I've had the chance to try these tips out. You guys were right - the rearward pressure on the jaws was exactly the issues. When I drop the front legs and take most the weight off the hitch, back up slightly (setting pin pressure forward in the jaws), VIOLA! The hitch lever slides easily out.
