rig to external propane grill

I have a quick connect from the RV propane tanks and I would like to connect to a propane grill that currently uses 1 lb bottles. Can I use a straight connection or does the connection need a regulator?

Same question if I get a propane single burner stove.
  • I have two quick disconnects on my RV after the regulator that I added myself. I run a Ducane BBQ and a Camp Chef 3 burner stove. I removed the hose with the regulator that came with the stove and the BBQ and replaced them with plain hoses that have threaded female connectors at either end. On one end, I screwed the male half of the quick disconnect and I connected the other end to the BBQ and Stove where I removed the hose from. Works fine.

My trailer has a regulated quick connect that is not compatible with my grill or any coleman products be cause they run on high pressure. I purchased a tee from PPL motorhomes in Houston that attaches to my propane tank on my fifth wheel. Then my propane line for the trailer screws into that. There is also a 8 foot hose that connects to the tee. That hose has the coleman type connectors on it and connects directly to my coleman propane stove or my propane BBQ Pit. I really like this setup because I dont have all of those half full coleman propane bottles anymore.I would post a pic of it but I dont know how to post pics.

    Got the concept. Thanks.
  • As Halmfamily said. The quick connect should be low pressure an additional regulator will render the grill useless. Get a grill with the regulator at the propane tank end of the hose and replace the hose with one sans regulator. Then put the quick connect adapter on. Got our grill at Costco. One of those RVQ grills should be already set up for this. Don't know if they are still around. We hook up a grill and a fire pit. A griddle/stove is next. Maybe a "Y" setup too.
  • I stand corrected. Informed and happy. Thanks for the info.
  • Go to PPL Motorhome site . go to parts then LP and look for LP extend kits and tees.

  • I have pondered the same question. Here is what I have found with my limited knowledge. The propane tanks on the rig have a regulator that reduces the pressure to about 11 inches. The grill that uses the small 1 lb. tanks are a higher pressure. So the two are not compatible.

I hope someone tells me in detail that I'm wrong.

Your Rv already has the the regulator on it. You will need to take the regulator off of your grill in order for it to work properly.
