RV tires made in the USA?

You can find LT tires all over that are made in the USA. OF course that generally applies to 16 inch sizes. If you have 15 inch wheels your choices are very limited.

Cooper and Goodyear tire companies started out as American manufacturers and have stayed that way to some extent. Goodyear is now an international company, but its world headquarters remain in Akron, Ohio. It also owns the Kelly Springfield and Dunlop brands. Cooper manufactures tires in Ohio and Georgia; Goodyear in Virginia, North Carolina, Alabama, Oklahoma, Tennessee, New York and Kansas. Denman Tire, founded in 1919, is based in Ohio.

Michelin is the world's largest manufacturer of tires for vehicles from bicycles to the space shuttle. The French company purchased the American firm Uniroyal-Goodrich company in 1989. In the United States, it manufactures tires in Alabama, North and South Carolina and Arkansas. Bridgestone, a Japanese company bought out Firestone, another company with American roots, in 1998 and makes tires in North and South Carolina, Ohio, Illinois and Tennessee.

I haven't found a good LT tire that would fit my 5'er unless possibly changing rims. It has 235/80R16's and clearance is limited for any taller or wider tire.

To me it's a myth that all RV tires made in China are China Bombs. Maxxis is a great tire and made in China. Carlisle is made mostly in USA and known for problems on RV's. There are good tires and bad tires regardless of where they are made.

Goodyear does make some tires in the US. But be aware that Goodyear Marathon tires sometimes found on 5ers are made in China. And they have been the target of frequent complaints of blowouts.

Ehow might be ready for an update, since in February this year Michelin opened a 1.5 billion dollar factory in China, which factory is Michelin's biggest anywhere in the world.

Per their production of RV tires:
Michelin's page that includes "plants by tire type" link doesn't say where RV tires are produced.



To O.P.:

By "China", do you mean that country, or all/any Asian country? I ask because tires are produced in other countries over there, too.

LT235 85R16 is an acceptable alternative and works perfectly for many people
