RV TOURS?????

Several years ago the wife & I did the Rose Parade Tour with Fantasy RV Tours.
All rvs were parked at one place and we were bused around. Wonderful seating for the parade (no posts, light poles or signs blocked out view). Got to tour the float barns, work on a float if you want to and other activities. We had a short 2 block walk from the bus parking to our parade seats.
Got to go to horse races and bet if you wanted to.
We were very pleased with the company and services provided.

I don't remember any cons for this tour.

Summer of '18 we used Fantasy Tours for the Calgary Stampede in Alberta. The campground was set up in a football stadium parking lot; power and water worked great and they had a honeywagon visit mid-week.

They were very well organized and all details worked out great. They arranged transportation to Stampede grounds, ticket access for several events, a side tour to Banff. It was very convenient to have all those details covered for such a large and crowded event.

Can't think of any negatives from this trip.

Good morning Nodaker. Thank you for the reply. I like the part about being well organized. That tells me that things went smoothly. That is what I want to hear. I am sure I will hear a con story or two. And I wany to hear those also.

We were parked in one spot the whole time.
We were bused to everything we visited.
The main float barn had a long line and the line moved slowly.
The rv's were set up on the back parking lot of Santa Anita horse race track.
Large dinning tent for meals meetings and east coast time zone, new years celebrations.
We had about 4-5 buses to haul us around.

We took the Adventure Caravans tour of the Great Western Parks which took the entire month of September starting in Utah.
For us the biggest plus was to have the entire trip planned by someone else and designed to see as much as possible in the shortest time period. It also included all of the necessary campground reservations and a `tailgunner' that brought up the rear of the group to be sure everyone made it.
The biggest negative for some RVers is the lack of freedom to `do your own thing'. Cost might be another.

I guess the cons are the lack of flexibility. The con of doing it yourself is organising all the stuff that the tour operator does for you. When you are planning an extended trip with multiple events with fixed dates to be met it gets challenging.

Others have covered the pros and cons pretty well, but I know a number of people who have taken RV (and other) tours that would either do a "free-form" trip =to= the tour meeting place, or do the same =after= the tour.

Personally, one tour that I wanted to do early on was the Copper Canyon in Mexico. You put your RV on a train flat car, chained it down, and it became your "rail coach" for the trip. Planned stops every night with entertainment, history, food and shopping along the way. Sadly, with the current "political" climate in Mexico, they stopped doing these several years ago.

Another one I'd like to do would be for the Indy 500. I've been to 3 races, but none were camping. Would be a real experience, for sure! As I have cousins that live not far away, we could visit them, too.

Dick B, thanks for the reply. Glad that you mentioned Adventure Caravan tours. that brought to mind a friend who had gone on a number ot their tours. I will have to talk to her.
