Sewer Handles

When I replace cable pull valves, I took the wire out of the cable completely and liberally lubed it with grease before reassy and instal. Never had to do one twice.

I have drained the black tank and then pour a couple large bottles of veg oil and let it soak. Then I go outside and pull and push the handle several times quickly. This is best to be gone for a time for the best results like out to lunch.

Jim, I have 3 tanks, so 3 of the Barker's will set you back about a total of $300. I installed myself, took a couple hours. I installed the rocker switches in the water bay. I had to buy some extra wire to extend the pigtail, as they are about 24" from factory.

I cant speak to longevity, but in my usage, they are protected by the belly from weather, etc. I expect them to last quite awhile.

My experience was just the opposite. I dropped the belly and disconnected the cables, and manually operated the valves and they were very easy to move. Ended up being the cables that were the problem.

I solved that problem by installing Barker electric Autodrains, and doing away with the cables all together. Best mod I've made to date.

I have noticed if I spray a little WD40 on the shaft of the handle my valves are much easier to open and close. I do this once or twice a month and it seems to make a huge difference. Give it a try since it cannot hurt anything. I have been doing it for years. My valves are exposed though so it is simple, but also they get a lot of dirt and water spray.

I agree with Jerry. The problem is usually not the handle or the wire leading to the valve, but with the valve itself. The valve lube does help some. I have had to take the black valve body loose and lube it a couple of times. Mine is relatively easy to get to but not the "funnist" job!!!
