A pump doesn't alleviate the need for a long hose. Helps if the run is uphill regardless of distance.

Yes, one could carry a 50' garden hose and not have an issue anywhere. I bought my macerator for use at home and never considered using it while camping.
Like others, I carry a 10' along with a 20' and have never needed longer.
