Silverwood Lake Trail Width Question

Has anyone been to Silverwood (Big Bear area) and been out on the trails? I have a Polaris Ranger (stock) and was curious if it will make it through the signs to ride on the trails. If not, do we just ride the fire roads? I heard they widened them but did not know if this was true or not.

Thanks,

Brendan
  • Brendan,
The trails are 50". They were widened by people taking quads on what was single track. Most trails have no place to turn around or pass if you encounter another quad. There are roads you can run, all the way to Big Pine if your vehicle is capable.
  • You can take a lot of trails up there just get a map, like stated above there are some narrow areas but there's still a lot of areas to go. There are trails that say you need to have a street legal vehicle stay off of those you will be sited and they are marked! Go check it out it's a nice place to go. You we need an adventure pass also. You can get a day pass or a yearly pass. Watch out for two way traffic!!

  • Thanks for the replies. I was up there about 5 years ago on my dirtbike and we ended up by a stream and a water fall (not too far from Silversood). Don't remember the trail we were on for that but it was pretty cool.

I'll second that and pretty limited to within Holcomb Valley, maybe one or two that go to/from Silverwood but a lot of the roads/trails are restricted to licensed vehicles.

You can get a trail map from the USFS Ranger station, they may be available online too.
  • You can stage at Pilot Rock 2N33 and do a huge loop to Deep Creek and to the Pinnacles Staging area and so on..... something else for a short day trip would be Baldy Mesa run.
