slide out and landing gear stalls when retracting

I hope someone can help...The RV shop seemingly has tried everything.. I own Mobile Suites 5th wheel. When I retract the living room slide out, it stalls. I hear a click as if there is a reset button and then it works.. Then it stalls again. I wait 30 seconds and can continue to retract.....I have the same issue when retracting the landing gear. It stall, I hear the 'click' and 30 seconds later it's working again ….Repair shop tried putting in a new control panel...new batteries...new switch......problem still continues...….Does anyone have a clue/hint/suggestion ? Thanks

PS....I have no issue when we let the slide-out out or let the landing gear down...It is almost like there is a power surge that is causing a fuse to blow and get automatically reset.....The fact that it is both the landing gear AND the slide-out seems like a clue

I hope to talk to the shop tomorrow or Tuesday and see where they are at... Yes 50A is the original.....last I heard, they swapped out the batteries and put new ones in and problem continues.....I think they are running out of ideas...….what do you mean " have they measured the Amps"? How do they do that ?

CBs are sized to protect the wires. Increasing size may be problematical. Is 50A the original mfg size?

Has the shop measured the amps? If so what was the max? And if not why not.

FWIW My slides are heavy and the Lipper pump draws 25-30A.

Thank you everyone for comments so far . I have forwarded all this on to the RV dealer/repair shop.

So a couple questions....assuming it is the breaker, what is the cause ? (Yes...hydraulic and Lippert)

One suggestion is : the brushes on one side of the pump motor are failing drawing too many amps and popping the resetable breaker .

I guess another suggestion is everything is fine except 50 AMP is insufficient and needs to be replaced with an 80....

(I guess the two possible solutions are not mutually exclusive)

If the 50 AMP is replaced with an 80, do I have to worry about wires getting to0 hot ? I am not an electrician, but does the 80 AMP have to be done with two 40's in series? in parellel? I am way out of my league on this, but maybe someone can make sense of this question..

As the description goes... it is definitely the breaker. It sounds like it has become weak from multiple trips and needs to be replaced. It can also trip from low voltage causing a high amp draw. Many, including myself, have gone to an 80amp breaker as per Lippert suggestion noted above.

The Op did not state if he has hydraulic slides and landing gear or all electric. Really doesn’t matter

He clearly is having an issue with a resettable breaker heating up due to current draw when operating slides or LG.

Since th issue is occurring on both systems it’s not a motor causing the issue... it’s a weak or under currrent resrtsbbke breaker.

Easy to replace

It might help to post your question on the DRV owners forum:

Other owners of similar units will have more insight into the components and their placement.

Most likely your auto reset circuit breaker. Look for something like this near your battery. There may be more than one, so you may have to determine which one is for the slides and jacks. Probably a 50 amp breaker. Cheap and easy to replace. Available at RV part stores and many auto parts stores. The more they trip the weaker they get.

Mr. Steed do you have that PDF ? It looks like you may have tried to post a link ?...….(If a larger AMP breaker is put in , maybe my warrantees become invalid ?)

We had a manual breaker mounted under the chassis, I think, in the left front corner which tripped one day at the dealership. They replaced it with an automatic resettable one and it hasn't tripped since.
Could a weak battery cause the current demand to increase to develop the required power and trip such a breaker?

It is definitely NOT the battery; they took mine out and put new ones in without resolving the issue....Mr.Newman...can you expand a little on your suggestions? This stuff is way over my head.....You mentioned "relay", "pump" and "wire", what are you thinking ?

Most likely a resettable breaker usually located inside battery compartment is tripping. Once it cools off it resets and will trip again as slide starts moving

Check wire on the breaker and make sure they are tight

I’d replace with a larger amp breaker ... Lippert put out a PDF regarding issues with these breakers.
