Slide-out fabric

I wander what better fabric is to replace my slide-out awning acrylic or double vinyl. The one I got now is Carefree of Colorado and it start to rip at the corner.
  • My Carefree of Colorado slide awning are also giving up on their life after about 7 years. The ones on the sun side are almost history and the other side in the shade is like brand new. I saw a you tube video on tough top awnings and they seem to be the best buy with 15 ounce vinly and that is where I am going to try. I think the acrylic is good only for patio awning that have a good slope for water run off.
  • It depends on where you are. I had Carefree vinyl and they were replaced after a year (warranty) for ripping. After another year they were going again. I went to Shade Pro in El Cajon, CA and they suggested for longer life I should switch to acrylic which I did. The service and instal were great but after the first rain they pooled significantly. I tried using a long pole to lift the center of the topper up to remove the water (like I had done with the vinyl) without success. The acrylic is too light of a material. The acrylic would fill with water eventually extending down to rest on the top of the slide. Trying to bring in the slide to get the water to run off resulted in the acrylic material sucking in on top of the slide. I called Shade Pro to see if the material could be tightened. They indicated that pooling was common with acrylic as it was so light and acrylic was good for CA weather (sunny) but not for other places. I have tried "Air WEdges", pvc tubes etc to keep the toppers from pooling without success. After rain I need to go up on the roof and sweep them off. Next time I will go back to vinyl.
