Storage Organizers for cabinets, etc.????

Hi,
We are looking at an Open Range 3x427BHS to live in full time. Organized storage will be critical. This model has great overhead storage cabinets in the living area. The cabinets are deep and high. They have no shelves nor any dividers. While this is good in some ways I think it will end up being a mess after being on the road since everything will shift to the front of the cabinets.

Can anyone recommend ways to provide organized storage? I know there are lots of options, but am wondering what you have found works best for you.

thanks
matt

Long thread with lots of ideas. Storage and other rv stuff
  • I have improved some storage cabinets in my fifth wheel by adding shelves where I don't need so much vertical storage. The back wall of the unit has four overhead cabinets; I added shelves to two of the four and use the space for my DVD collection. Above the microwave is a large cabinet to which I added two shelves. and to the right of the refrigerator is a tall and narrow cabinet to which I added three shelves, creating much more usable pantry space.
  • I bought some clear container for clothes and some smaller ones for misc. Wal-Mart for 3 to 5 dollars. They stack well and I write in marker on the front or lid what’s in them. Works pretty well and keeps thing organized and separate. Just get what fits the space and hold what you want, I bought a few and then added as I went.
  • We have several sizes of mid-sized plastic containers with lids for these storage areas sized to fit the contents and the cabinet. We printed labels (large typeface on plain paper) and taped them inside the ends of the containers that would face outward so we don't have to guess at which container to pull down. Did the same with smaller containers for the cabinets over the dresser in the bedroom.

  • I used the solid plastic boxes at first, but found I had a lot of dead space between them.

So I got some ebags packing cubes. They come in a bunch of colors and sizes, so you can easily identify what is what. They are soft, so they don't take up more space than what is inside of them. They allow for air flow in the contents so clothes don't get must smelly.

I find I can fit more in them and they can fit into more spaces than the hard crates.
