STORING 5TH WHEEL HITCH.

QUESTION? HAVE A PULLRITE SUPERGLIDE 4400 18K 5TH WHEEL HITCH. SHOULD ONE LEAVE THE LOCK JAW MECHANISM OPEN WHEN STORING THE 5TH WHEEL HITCH OR CLOSE THE LOCKING MECHANISM AND RELEASE THE TENSION ON THE SPRINGS.

I leave mine closed, however I have a 16 reese which opens and locks hooking up.

Closed. I leave about a foot long 1 x 2 up in the in the pin box (It's never blown out of there) to use for tripping the jaws to the closed position.

IMO - it's no big deal either way - but, as another poster said....
sure would hate to have someone lose a finger!

SHOULD BE GOOD EITHER WAY. I WOULD PROBABLY LEAVE THEM CLOSED, ESPECIALLY IF THERE ARE LITTLE FINGERS AND HANDS THAT COULD GO EXPLORING. I WOULD HATE FOR THEM TO ACCIDENTLY CLOSE THE JAWS ON THEIR HANDS.

I USED TO TAKE THE PRESSURE OFF THE SPRINGS BUT IT SHOULD NOT MATTER.
