Survey: How often do you chock your wheels?

I was in a campground in Kansas that was as flat as a billiard table, and my neighbor had all four trailer wheels chocked front and back. I thought this was overkill and it prompted my to ask this question: When do you chock your wheels?

a) Every time without fail
b) Only if I am parked on a noticeable slope
c) Never

Personally, my answer is b.

I've got the chocks with me, so why not use them?
Do you only use your safety chains when you are pretty sure your rig is going to come loose?
Do you only put on your seat belt when you are planning on plowing head first into a concrete abutment?

Every time I unhitch, one set each side.

Always. Once level side to side BAL chocks are placed between wheels on both sides of rig to reduce movement. If site has a significant slope chocks are placed in front/behind wheels depending on slant of slope. Drop our four stabilizers after un-hitching and our 33' rig feels pretty stable. Thankfully, our power tongue jack and 18volt drill makes the process quick and easy.

You'll never see a trailer chocked at an RV dealership. I usually chock one tire but then I've got 6 leveling jacks on the ground.

Any other way is asking for problems. Lack of habits is when you have an issue.

I always chock the wheels even when it may not be necessary, that way I'm less likely to forget to do it when it is really necessary. Kind of a built-in routine.

FWIW, I have a 96 Souhwind Class A. I chock the drive axle when parked on a slight slope, which is pretty much always.

a) Always when unhooked. Part of the routine. Don't screw with the routine.

Always before I unhitch and they stay chocked until I'm hitched. I use the type that locks between the tires.

Here's what can happen if you don't chock even on flat land. I duplicated video tapes for a lawyer involved in a lawsuit where a wife had been killed while the husband was hitching up their 5th wheel. She was in between the truck and the 5th wheel. He was backing in to set the pin. Some how the pin rode up on the hitch plate, that lifted the landing gear off the ground. The king pin slipped off the front of the hitch plate causing the 5th wheel to roll forward just enough to pin her to the truck before the landing gear contacted the ground. The wheels of the 5th wheel were not chocked. If they had been it may have saved her life.

And she shouldn't have been standing where she was.

Always Rotos when level. Any incline and two wedges come out.
