Swapping tires

I need to swap tires around on my 5er. Can you jack under the U-bolts one-by-one and get away with it or is it bad JuJu?
  • eitherway you do please ensure you have the truck hitched up because the landing legs are not designed for any shift movement other than vertical, because they will bend and buckel and fall to the ground, I have heard of stories of people changing a tire without it hooked to the truck and this happened. so be safe and let the weight shift on the hitch and not the landing legs.
  • Keystone Owners Manual says, "Position a hydraulic jack on the frame close to the spring hanger."
  • Good JuJu for one at a time. Put the spare on and you can take two down to the tire store.

    x2, except since 1965.
  • U bolt is better than directly on the axle. I flipped my axles, so old spring pad makes a perfect jacking point. Chris
  • I use the axle tubes next to the U bolt. I jack all my trailers with std leaf spring suspension this way. Torsion axles need a different plan.
