Bought a 2010 Jayco 35 ft 5th wheel in 2011. Went on a couple of short trips (10 to 500 miles round trip). Lived in the trailer for a year in our yard. Began fulltiming in Feb. Got 800 miles and one of the tires separated, with the center of the tread coming out. Had it replaced, drove another 100 miles and had the other one on the same side go flat. Drove another 400 miles and now see a large bulge in one area of the tread on the other side. Have kept tires at 80 psi as our load is max but not over. The tires are GoodYear Marathon ST235/80R16 with an E load rating. Tread looks fine and the tires were manufactured in 2010. Real disappointed with GoodYear. Is this common or have I done something wrong? Sitting in one place too long?

You need to do a search for ST tires. There are hundreds of pages and thousands of posts on the subject. Speed and are are the twp biggest reasons for tire failures among ST tires.

We bought a 2011 Heartland in 2010 and it came with Tow Maxx Power King tires. We have driven a total of 2000 miles on it with a lot, and I mean a lot of sitting in between, in our side yard on a gravel driveway. We keep them inflated to the recommended psi and look good still. We inspect them before every trip. There are no side cracks or crazing. The tread looks good. According to the code on the side, we should replace them by May 2015. I'm not sure if yours is premature wear or faulty manufacturing. We do keep ours covered with white vinyl tire covers when it's sitting in our yard. We did have Goodyears on our last TT and we had to replace them after owning it for 2 years due to crazing on the sidewalls.

Welcome to the world of economical ST tires. The good news is that GY is really good about warranting them. The bad news is you will still be on what they call their economical trailer tire! Most knowledgeable owns try to switch a higher quality LT tires if they can fine a size that meets the GAWR. 6K axles are easy, above that it gets very expensive. Chris

The biggest reason for failure of ST tires is ST tires. They are******and if you have 7k axles you need at least 3500lbs load capacity and they are hard to find except ST. Save yourself all the grief and go to 17.5 inch rims and tires. I did months of research and bought ST tires 3 years ago and had two blowouts with load range F. Now I have the 17.5s.Brian

FWIW those tires will look perfect right up the moment of detonation. Ours went at around 8,000 miles, so you have a few miles to go yet. :)

This is a story that is repeated way to often! When will people learn? Cheap tires are expensive in the long run. Chris

When the RV trailer is required to set in one place for extended periods, the owner should try and to reposition (rotate) the tires 180 degrees every 90 days - or more often - if possible. Tire manufacturers use a lot of chemicals to help prevent ozone damage, aging and weather checking - just to name a few. Over long periods of time those chemicals will migrate to the bottom of the tire leaving all areas above them unprotected. Our cars, trucks, etc. are not normally idle for long periods and do not suffer from the lack of protection.

Another beneficial safety precaution would be to provide a barrier between the surface the tire is parked on and the tire. Over long periods of inactivity water can permeate into the tire treads and decay them along with the tires innerliner and maybe even the carcass.
