I purchased an excellent app called lowclearances.com and I use it all the time to plot my courses. I believe the app is constantly updated from a network of truckers, RV'rs etc.. :B
Is this a "Point of Interest" file that loads into your GPS? Mark
Yes Mark, it works on all the major GPS devices or cell phones and it can alert you when you are approaching a low bridge (Just like a point of interest). However, I like to use the app with Google Earth on my PC where I can see all the low spots on my route at the same time. You can also program it to show you anything under your requested height. I myself look for anything under 14 feet" just to add a bit of a buffer. I think it goes as high as 16 feet but I certainly don't need to have alerts for things that are way higher than my 13.7"RV. I believe this app is a sound investment if you are worried about wrecking your RV. I have a lifetime subscription which is a good deal.
FYI I believe the app only works on overpasses, tunnels and bridges. It does NOT identify low hazards such as Gas stations or traffic semaphores that I know of. (PS I have no affilation with this company, I just like the product) Safe travels :C
