Toy Hauler Ramp Extension

I want to add a 5' X 3' ramp extension on my Forest River Grey Wolf 19RR to lessen the abrupt angle of approach when loading the motorcycle.

I have a motorcycle trailer that uses a simple piece of plywood and a piano hinge for this.

I was planning on using a piece of 3/16" aluminum diamond plate. But then I looked up the weight of 3/16 aluminum DP and 3/4" plywood.

15 sq feet:
Al Diamond Plate = 40#
3/4 Plywood = 25#

I had no idea!

And the PW is a whole heck of a lot cheaper. I'll use aluminum C channel around the edges like my motorcycle trailer has.

I ordered a couple of swing down stabilizer jacks that I'll use to keep the edge of the ramp up and they will also serve to hold the ramp level to act as a small porch.

The additional ramp could be raised 90 degrees and be used as one wall for a pet confinement area with two more fold down sides.

I don't have a pet...but might be a good idea for pet owners.
  • Do you have any pictures of the extention? I have a GD 380 and most times the ramp id very step. Loading is not a problem but the unload process can be very step and a nail biter.
  • The supportsafest are great, I have them on the back of my homemade utility trailer. They are adjustable, mine are on the back bumper and swing east-west (same as the axle ).

    Looking forward to the photos.

    Use the clutch as a brake with the engine off.
    Engaged = stop
    Dis-engaged = go
