traveling miles? how far in 1 day

If your not tied to a clock, how far do your travel in 1 day?

So your not over tired, nor over stretched and then the next day tired. Old Man rest usually gets his justice somewhere, then is's usually Expensive...

Advice for a new old guy..

We try to not do more than 300 miles a day, but have done 400 to 425 in a long day.

Bout right but for us it is more like wheels turning 10:30, wheels stop 2:30. Miles, whatever between. We avoid interstates as much as reasonably possible. Nap time by 3:30. Awake by 5:00 in time to watch the entertainment of all the 3-400 mile tired & irritable people coming in & setting up.

With no timeline we try to limit our driving to ~4 hours a day. Spend a week and do the same the following week. YYMV 🙂

It's 1500 miles from home to Colorado and there is nothing in between that in need to see again so I do it in two days. Once there it's anywhere from 4 miles to 400.

400.. usually on the road at 8am and stopped by 5pm. We're not in a hurry to get anywhere usually.

I find it hard to pile the miles on when towing. It always takes longer to do everything. I don't have a limit or a goal. It's a trip thing. I tow how many miles I need to to make the trip work out. I gave up a couple years ago trying to tow like I drive a car. Makes it too frustrating.

My family can tolerate a few hard days on the road over 2-3 weeks of travel. Attached is an image of our hardest day for this years trip to Cali. And yes, I now plot each and every required stop because my little 26 gallon fuel tank has made for some unsteady nerves in the past. Plus, I get a more accurate account for my total time on the road and stopped.

More typical days range from 200-400 miles.

When towing, put me in the 300 or less club. We take 6 days to do the 1400 miles between home and SoCal in the winter. I know some keeners who do it in three. No thanks, that's not why I retired.

With us still BOTH working, and being weekend warriors and camping on our vacations we have to make the best of it .

I will generally drive longer the first day, this will allow me an easier day 2..
Coming back to PA from Disney ( 1200 miles) we generally will drive all the way to Doswell VA the first day ( Saturday ) which is about 750 miles.. This gives us a short run home Sunday so we can get home early, unpack and get ready for work Monday . .

Can't wait till time off does not decide my driving for me ! ! ! !

That was EXACTLY how we traveled when Full Timing.
Usually made 250 miles during those 6 hrs. (2 potty breaks/lunch time)

Wasn't on vacation nor did we HAVE to be anywhere at a certain time.

Since retirement 14 yrs ago we have stopped RUSHING anywhere.
It's now OUR time and WE enjoy it

It is just me now so I stop when I need more coffee or restroom breaks.

Depends on the road, weather and wind. Some days a little less some days a lot more but we try to average 300 miles. We used to do 500-600 miles pretty regularly. I don't know why. This is a lot easier..

My traveling Bud travels on DR PEPPER time: On the road at 10:00, of the road at 2:00 and adult beverage at 4:00. Also works for me; however I have also done the 12 - 14 hour runs when the circumstances require.

Flying solo in my early 20s, I did 1500 miles with a one-hour stop due to seeing things that weren't there.

In my 30s, the family (4 year old and 1 year old) drove 1200 miles in a day with DW co-pilot assistance. Won't do either again as those were painful days.

Now late 40s with a family of five we will drive 500-600 miles for a solo day. Multi-day trips my goal is about 500 miles cruising at 60mph. Maybe 10 hour days if trying to reach a destination. Not wanting to kill myself, needing days to recover.

I imagine the rule of 3 will apply once we retire and have the spare time.
