A number of people have asked about tire drag on tri-axle 5th wheels. I had to move my rig today to clean it to get ready for the season and I thought I'd post the photos of the skid marks on the pavement. The sideways scuffs on the tires are on the outside of the front left tire and inside of the front right tire. There are no scuffs on the middle or rear tires.It was a right angle turn but not particularly tight.

My fiver leaves marks on the ground as well. That is typical for a tri-axle.

Even my two axle will do it, just not as bad.

I am a road hog when I tow mine. If I have to wait for traffic to clear so be it. I use all the road and make as wide of turns as I can. Only make a 90* turn like that when I have to.

When turning tight at my shop or home, I'll hose down the area with water to help with tire wear.I have a customer with a 10'spread axle......I can't bear to see the scrubbing and flexing while backing into the shop!

The TRAILER tire is mounted on any of the trailer axles. Again, tire position here may include both INSIDE and OUTSIDE tires, as many trailers utilize a dual wheel configuration. Trailer tires are designed to withstand heavy loads and brake forces, are optimized for free rolling, and typically have reinforced sidewalls to protect against damage caused by curbing.

What are multi-axle trailers designed to do. On my dual axle 5r there appears to be more bending/flexing of the frame and spring hangers creating a massive misalignment of the most rear axle/wheels. In my case it has actually caused some damage to the frame and hangers. If properly designed should they be dragging the tires but maintain reasonable close alignment or should they bend as mine do during a tight turn?

My landscape trailers do that. Not a big deal.

I've worn out lots of trailer tires but as you can see, mine are now truck tires so I'm not worried about it anymore.

Age gets to my trailer tires before the tread wear does.

I've worn out lots of trailer tires but as you can see, mine are now truck tires so I'm not worried about it anymore.
