Using a tonneau cover

One more thing to think about -

As I stated above, I have a Truxedo roll-up cover. When rolled up, even with the few metal supports, it is very small. I'd guess less then 1/2 half the size of the cover in the ALEXLEBLANC post above. On the couple of times I have sloppily rolled it up so it is larger, I have been unable to see my hitch when backing up to hitch up. Meaning that it's tough to center the truck hitch on the fiver king pin using my inside mirror. That tonneau cover above would be a problem for me, as well as the sectional covers that stack-up right behind the window.

I am a single so I don't have help when hitching. I have a Hensley BD3 hitch.

I have a tri fold hard top and i have had some cases where the front cab has come to close for comfort on sharp hills and turns.

I have a Paragon tonneau cover, very well made and easy to remove as needed.

I've been using my Truxedo roll-up for 4 years now and it still looks almost new. This no flimsy cover ! And if your tailgate is locked, it cannot be opened, unless you have a sharp instrument.

I have an RDS aux tank/toolbox in the bed which meant I could not use any cover that had low supports, release mechanisms, etc that would not clear the top of the tank. The Truxedo does have supports but they are forward of the tank so no interference. Absolutely worth every penny of the $300 I spent for it.

I can't remember the brand but mine is a 4 piece folding style for a long bed and works well, it was a little bit of a chore when we had the Pickup camper to remove each time but just fold it to the front and it has snaps to keep in place for the 5er.

Sounds like the folding ones work but I can also attest to great luck with the Truxedo roll-up. I'm 3 years in on my second one. Sold the first one after 6 years with my last truck. Both work flawlessly. No snaps, no sagging under snow, less than 30 seconds to roll-up or roll back. The only downside is someone could razor knife it but it's never been a problem and I really don't have anything that valuable that can be easily removed. I love the functionality (of any tonneau) for being able to unhook and cover the hitch completely out of sight.

I have had 2 trucks with 2 different covers, both of them roll up styles. They never leaked or pooled water because they have bars in them. The first was an access brand the other a mopar. The access brand gave me clearance issues between pin box and box sides because the rails for the cover are clamped on to the insides of the box, so it reduces your bed with about 5-6". The mopar rails clamp on top of the box sides so pin box to box clearance is not an issue. If you buy a cover no matter what brand just make sure the rails that they use are clamped on top of the box sides.
