One thing to be aware of is that some wheels have a recessed hole where the body of the valve stem sits. Sometimes the nut that holds the valve stem together is too big to fit into the recessed hole rendering your brad new metal valve stems useless......happened to me!!

If you can't figure it out ahead of time, you can look for metal stems that fit either size hole, like these Vs-416.
x2 on the aluminum wheels may have a recessed area around the hole that restricts what valve will fit.
You could call the trailer manufacturer with the last 8 digits of the serial number and ask what brand/model wheels you have. They should have a build sheet on their computer for your trailer. Then call the wheel manufacturer.

I am going to replace tires soon and go from d to e rated tire. I will be using a tpms and need to go to a metal valve stem. How can I tell what diameter valve stem to order without removing the existing stem? My wheels are the factory aluminum wheels that came on my fw.

I've never heard of different valve stem diameters for street vehicles, but that doesn't mean they don't exist. My air chuck and gauges fit everything from by bicycles to my tractor trailer. Having said that, we did have larger valve stems on our 20 yard scrapers. I'm waiting to see what others say.
