Want to upgrade tires

I have a 2010 Montana 3400RL with a total (ship+max carrying-tongue)weight of 13540 pounds and have been using GY Marathons 235/80R16 and blowing out tires and damaging sides of RV. I would like to upgrade to a better tire ( maybe a G rated tire or an LT tire but do not know which. Also how can I find out what pressure my rims will take in the tires. Montana will not tell me the pressure rating of my RIMS.

One needs to know their weights...My 5er has a GVW of 16,950#....loaded to 16,200#...7,000# weight rated axles....My tire is a GY G614, for 7,000# rated axles...as you stated, an "E" rated Michelin RIB would be too close to match that weight...I wouldn't use a RIB on a 7,000# weight rated axle...but I wouldn't use a Carlisle either, even rated to 4,000#, that doesn't particularly mean it's a "better" tire...The G614's are rated at 3750# per tire at 110 psi...now I've had those on my 5er since 07' and no real issue (one tread lost on a tire, but found I had to replace a weak spring pack that only allowed 1" of clearance between the tire tread and the wheel well.

I would have also recommended the Sailun S637 G rated tire....

Carlisle doesn't have a very good reputation, but hopefully you'll be fine.

Carlisle tires are ST tires speed rated at 65 mph.Heavy tire, have 1500 miles on them and are wearing much better than the Marathons.I could not quit worrying about the Goodyear tires with all the bad talk.Carlisle's recommended to me by a reliable source, proven track record.I do not drive over 65mph so works for me.

Heavy tire compared to what? Proven track record?? Have you ever picked up a Michelin XPS RIB tire? Will admit that the Marathons do have a bad reputation, but anyone who has been around these forums or done the research also know that Carlisle too has a bad reputation for ST tires. Chris, (me again), knows what he's talking about when it comes to Carlisle and their speed ratings,, they're all over the place with them. BUT, your 5er, I assume, isn't very heavy, so that's a plus in your favor...Carlisle tires seem to work on lighter TT's and 5er's where they're not pressed to handle much heavier loads and stress when being used on heavier 5er's.

FWIW, DT lists the 15" E Carlisles as an N speed rating, or 87 mph. I don't think I could do that on the flat, while towing, even if I wanted to. I checked Carlisle's site and could find no info there. My Carlisles have nothing on the sidewall about a 65 mph speed rating.

Carlisle is playing games with speed ratings to attract the bass boat dudes. Their online catalog states most ST carry 65 MPH speed restriction. Above that a couple bullets it recommends not towing over 60 MPH. Then they tell people on the phone to tow up to the speed limit on the highway they are traveling on. Real shell game!

Hard to respect a company that plays games like that. Chris

I'd keep an eye on the Carlisle's....don't know if I'd call that an upgrade or not...

Not to worry, the Carlisle Radial Trail RH got the Nylon cap like the Marathon did years ago, so they should be good now just like the Marathons!

Chris

You are joking right?
