WD heavy duty hitches choices

Been researching a new hitch.
It needs to have a 2.5" receiver shank.
It needs to be able to carry the biggest T/Weights, and 15,000+gvw would be nice.

Here are the 2 WD sway control hitches I've been looking at.
What ya think guys ? Which one is best all things considered..?

Blue Ox BXW 2000
20,000 gvw 2000tw
includes 2.5" shank
$599, free shipping

Reese RP66075
17,000 gvw 1700tw
$754 + $140 for 2.5" shank, free shipping
  • Check out this recent thread that I started with the exact same question. I have done a lot of research.

I have been using the Dual Cam for years....good hitch.

I have decided to go with the Sway Pro with 1500 lb. bars on our new rig...but am in the process of ordering and waiting for the new trailer so haven't used the SwayPro yet.

The dealer offered me this deal: If I don't like the SwayPro, bring it back and he will switch it for the Dual Cam (so I can't loose).

  • I have the Sway Pro now. I had the Dual Cam previously

-The Sway Pro rides a lot better. It's bars are more "springy" so less shock is transmitted from the trailer to the tow rig
-Sway pro has those nifty rotating chain brackets with a built-in safety pin
-Sway Pro doesn't have any special setup needs like the Dual Cam
-Sway pro doesn't squeal and grind on turns as long as its greased

-Dual cam seems a lot more stable in some conditions. I feel strong crosswinds much more with the Sway Pro when passing trucks (if on the downwind side). The Dual Cam always kept the combination locked together in a straight line. I haven't gotten any sway with the Sway Pro, but never have without weight distribution either. I just feel more solid with the Dual Cam

My Say bro bar-ends (the pivot part) seem to be wearing a little quick. I'm not sure how much slop is acceptable. For a while, it felt like notches were getting worn in, but they turn freely again so those notches must have worn smooth.

My dual cam did have one hitch-head failure where the trunnion socket broke, dropping a bar. Others have had this happen too, but Cequent was good to me on the warranty coverage.

If I did it all over, I'd probably stick with the Sway Pro. It's a little cheaper, and I like the smoother ride.
  • Thanks guys, some good info here...

Bryan, your insight has helped me, as it has thru the years, since you did have the exact same TH as me. Thanks...

downtheroad, that is a good thread and helps, thanks.

Bedlam, I looked at that hitch. It is the heaviest duty TT hitch I've ever seen at 30,000gvw/3000tw. And while it probably fits my TW better than the 2000/20,000 Blue Ox, the dual 2" receivers required is a little much for me.

Looks like a Blue Ox BXW 2000 is in my near future...
The one thing that worries me, it seems the head unit is the same for all size Blue Ox hitches. Is it really that heavy duty to be able to handle 3500-20,000lb gvw...? And the BXW 2000 comes with a 2.5" shank,,, so does it taper down to a 2" head...?
Does the head unit really weight 68#..?
  • I had the Reese dual cam and liked it, one major item with it, you really need someone who knows what they are doing to set it up. I had it installed by two different dealers and neither one did it right! If you search on here there is a very large thread on what needs to be done to set it up, pictures and video.

When my freind was buying I leaned him away from the dual cam because of this, he went with the husky centreline and it works awesome

  • Every new line of fifth wheel and trailer seem to get heavier. I went overkill with my gooseneck and receiver because I don't want to replace them later with something heavier. I know I will upgrading RV's and what I currently own will not be my last. The fact Torklift products have a lifetime guaranty and are produced locally to me also has swayed my choice. I don't know how much the Everest WDH would be degraded with a single stinger - I would guess to the limit of your receiver or selected stinger instead of 30K lbs.

    It probably does.

My BlueOx came in a box that weighed 108 pounds.
