I wouldn't worry about the grunt and groans from the hitch.....from your description, sound like you got an "Equalizer" brand hitch, which is one of the best.
I just got the hitch off and it is an "Equalizer". The stickers on the bars indicate lubrication is recommended so that is probably what is causing the noises. That's good to know it's a good hitch. Is there a technique to getting the spring bars off the brackets without using a crowbar? I tried different tongue heights to change the tension. Gotta love the power tongue jack. It could be the trailer is level, but the truck is angled up slightly as the driveway is starting to go up.
