I have never been in a fifth wheel with an air conditioner mounted in the bedroom. I suppose it goes where we have a fantastic roof mounted fan which is directly above our bed. I can almost reach up from laying in bed and reach my fantastic fan controls. I am not sure I would like an air conditioner unit mounted over the top of us where we are sleeping. I also imagine the noise of the unit would make for hard sleeping as well....
I probably would be hard pressed to give up my fantastic fan for an air conditioner as well. We really love the cool night air that we can pull thru the windows cracked in the living room area of the trailer.
For me it would be great to be mounted on one of the side walls or over the hallway that leads into the bedroom ??? maybe even better being one of those floor type portable air conditioners
We occasionally have our living room air conditioner freeze up on when it is a very humid night and they most always starts dripping on the inside. Not sure if this is a problem others deal with or not.
My second RV trailer is our OFF-ROAD POPUP and with the tent beds etc we expect thing like dripping water to occur but waking up in the fifth wheel with water dripping on your nose probably would not be a good experience hehe...
Being a power conscious camper since we like to camp off the power grid and perhaps thinking outside the box abit I would probably install a second air conditioner that was capable of being operated from my single 2KW Honda Generator. The 9000BTU model perhaps...
just some of my concerns for adding an air conditioner installed in the bed room area. For sure having more cool air would be nice to have if you are in the real hot zone areas of our country alot. In my off-road POPUP our success in surviving the real hot days is to always park under heavy tree cover and play the window shade game the best we can.
We do real well with our one 13,500BTU unit in the POPUP. In the Smoky mtns areas around Gatlingberg seems like alot of the campers have large tarps up over the trailers in the heavy woods around there. It is like a tropical forest where when it rains the heavy tree cover drips water for days it seems but the shade from the tarps also helps in the cooling as well. I have a large 20 x 30 tarp that has openings for the roof mounted air conditioner and fantastic roof fan and I tie it off at an angle to the ground on the back side and up over the awning on the front front side. Being alot wider than our awning is gives us a full front cover to sit under supported by our awning and a couple of additional tent poles from Walmart... Using the 1/2-inch ratchet type web straps allows us to remove the tarp real quick when needed to for bad weather.
