Whats Your Real Weights? Truck and Trailer. The Real Deal

I don’t know if it’s been done before or not but I was thinking about keeping a running list of real truck weights by year and type, and trailer weights by brand, size and what the total combined weight is of each guys rig. I was hoping the info would be a help for guys wondering about what the real weights are for a certain type of truck and to keep track of the more popular brand 5th wheel trailers. Another thing that will come out of it will be to see just how many guys really know what they are towing and if they know what their weight capacities are.
I’m sure it will take some time to compile a list and it will grow as guys add there info but I’m hoping it will help the newer guys in the long run to be directed back over to this thread in the future.
I’ll keep the TV lists to mainly the big 3 and from ¾ ton and up and I’ll try to keep the 5ers in a group by real GVW, length, and then manufacture. Any ideas are welcome as long as it makes things easier. And only real information can be given, so no guessing allowed. Only guys that have scaled there rigs or are totally certain of the weights.
Let’s see if I can keep the format real simple to type down and that will make it simpler for guys to refer back to and to keep track of.
Here we go……

question: what and why do you have to weight the axel and how do you do it? I carry very little in 5th to avoid extra weight.

Stop at any truck fueling station like Pilot, Flying J or Loves and pull on their truck scales being sure that your truck front axle, truck rear axle and 5th wheel axles are on separate weigh platforms. You will get a weigh ticket showing each axle weight. Make sure that your 5ver is loaded the way you intend to travel including water, propane, food, clothes etc. Also have everything in the truck that you would travel with like the wife, kids, dogs and snacks, etc.

Unfortunately, your Grand Junction is too heavy for a 2500HD. You should have a 3500 dually for that heavy of a trailer. Some folks will argue that you are OK, but you will be exceeding the Chevy GVWR of your truck by quite a bit.

If you decide to stay with this truck, not a good choice, at least get a set of Timbrens or air bags to help the rear suspension and upgrade the tires and rims to a higher load rating.

Here is a good example of a Chevy from a couple of posts back with all of the weights. With a much lighter 5ver, it slightly exceeds the GVWR of the truck (IMHO, not a big deal).

Rear axle w/trailer - 5060# (6084# GAWR)

There is a full-timer from Arizona who weighs vehicles by using portable scales.
You drive an axle onto a pair of scales and keep going until you have TV and Trailer weights and pin weight.
When you have the weights he gives you a spreadsheet with the numbers and lets you know how safe you are.

We have a 2003 F-350 pulling a 38 ft Everest 5th wheel and I have not had a weight problem requiring air bags. I did run the rig across the scale to get loaded and empty weights. When pulling I run 50 lbs air in the front tires and 65 lbs in the rear. When empty I run 45 lbs front and 40 lbs rear according to the load chart I got. I guess it all depends on how much king pin weight you have and the load recommendations of the truck manufacturer. I have empty = 7000 ttl - 4060 front and 2940 rear. Pulling I am 21100 ttl = 13960 trailer = 4340 frt - 5880 rear king pin weight 3080.
