White vs. trailers with color

I'm on my 3rd 5th wheel. My first two were white with decal graphics. Seems like 90% or more of the 5th wheels on the road are white, it is so nice to finally see the different company's putting color in there 5th wheel/trailers. My current 5th is a Grand Design Solitude, the color of it was one of things that drew me to it. What's everyone's thought on this, boring white or a little color?

We are approaching our third summer in the Texas heat and sun with this full body paint Landmark. With occasional washing and one waxing the paint on this still looks brand new...in addition, we have no problem whatsoever keeping this rig just as cool and comfortable as our previous "white" fivers with decals...full body paint is the only way to go!!

That is what I like to hear. We ordered full body paint on MS on order. I was concerned about the darker colors but Alicia at RR almost insisted on a 3rd AC unit so we went with her advice.

Your combo looks very nice!

Thanks! I think the cream colored roof and white a/c units help keep it cool...but we've had no issue even with temps around 100 keeping it around 78 inside. BTW...that's our old truck.. We now have a burgandy 2015 Chevy...:)

Just noticed the pic of what your new one will look like! Nice... Same colors as ours! You will love full body paint!

Cummins12V98 - that's the color of our Elite! We've had so many nice comments on the color scheme. It's very easy to find in a campground when you forget what site your in, LOL

Nice to hear! I am still concerned since we only chose the color from the one listed at RV's for less. We ended up going MS with most of the Elite options. It's a 39TKSB3.

The one thing is it will for sure look different than most.

I noticed in your sig yours is a 2010. Is your paint scheme "Cinder Ridge"?

I got my new trailer as a "FEMA trailer" meaning no graphics whatsoever which is fine with me. The mfg uses Lamilux 4000 that looks good after years and years of exposure.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that black absorbs heat. I would only order a white RV as we are in the sun a lot and RV is stored in a sunny location. We do a lot of boondocking and don't need the heat of the sun warming up the interior. Also, when the colors start to fade, what kind of a trade in value are you going to get?

Another gripe I have about newer RV's. The dark interior colors and sometimes a lack of windows or small windows. I guess many are made for RV parks only where everyone uses electric lights instead of solar or battery power.

At the time I ordered my 2014 Lifestyle, there was the standard white gel coat (that I got) and a tan gel coat that I could have gotten for an additional $800. I kind of liked it but the very dark brown front and rear caps killed that for me. The other two options were 2 fairly dark full body paint options at a cost of over $8k.
The new Lifestyle now offers a partial body paint option that I really like. It is predominately white, however, the addition of the partial paint looks really nice.
Most likely, due to my satisfaction with my rig, I plan to keep it. With that in mind, I'm considering taking it to a paint shop to have the partial body paint option done to it to look like a factory job.
My point is that you can probably go with white if unsure and if you decide you are happy with your rig you could always have a custom paint job added later and probably for less than the factory is charging for the option. Just a thought. Phillip

Well as you can see from the sig ours IS darker colors however, ... Cedar Creek custom painted the graphics on this. it is automotive base coat/clear coat from front cap to rear cap under cowlings to top edge of glowing white EPDM rubber roof! (OK that I hate... different subject) I have touch up paint bottles. The exact paint codes if needed. If it ever fades too badly from neglect, It can be blended in. and the darker colors are toward the bottom and lighter on top (air cond's are the lightest in the scheme (Champaign)I too am from AZ (Tempe) and know from heat! also know from two big air units and more capacity + excellent insulation! This thing WILL cool inside to 68 when its 110 outside in sun!!! It will spin that ele meter with its DUAL 50 amp connection but what the heck vacation is good and if you've already got WELL north of 100K in a rig and tow V, It should be Damn Pretty! :B

We seasonal camp in Minnesota and don't experience the hotter-than-hades temps. I love, love the colors and graphics and they still look awesome after a couple of years.

When I buy a new rig I would like white with the decals in a box. Either have the graphics painted on with the decals for a pattern or leave it white.

Interesting idea...can you order with no decals? Interesting idea :h

I've heard the term "snowball" used by a dealer for a no-graphics rig.

When I was shopping for my current unit, there was a gray unit that I seriously considered until I put an IR gun on it. I tested two units from the same manufacturer, right next to each other, the gray unit and a white one. Difference in outside temp was shocking, and even on a sunny December morning at 10am, inside temp for the gray unit was already 6 degrees higher.

From an investigation of house paint colors I did a few yrs ago, I believe the cream color RVs will not be near as hot as gray. But I haven't done a comparison of all the different RV colors. A lot also depends on roof color as well. I'll stick with boring white.
