wiggle room on price

When I bought any RV I've ever had I look nationwide for the exact model I want, and start calling them up and ask them point blank - what's your best price? I have no qualms about travelling pretty far to save several grand. Some large dealers have pretty realistic prices. Then start pitting dealers against one another. If a local dealer can meet someone else's best price, great. But in short order you'll get a sense of what your best price can be. They all usually arrive at close to the same number. What % off MSRP is immaterial since MSRP is made up number anyway. But if it helps - it's usually about 33% off.

Price shop. In 2007 when we were wanting to buy a 5er, we found the floorplan we wanted at one dealer. But the under carriage had a lot of rust. His price was about $45,000. Forgot now how much below The supposed MSRP that was. But when pointing out the rust he dropped the price to about $41,000 and said he would sandblast the undercarriage and repaint it. I was leery of that and told him I would have to think on it.

More shopping and I found the exact same 5er at a different dealer. He said his price was $43,000 +/-. I said I had looked at the same 5er at a different dealer and his price was $41,000. New dealer said in that case his price is $39,000. Just shows how much they play with numbers. He also threw in some extras and we bought it.

We looked at a trailer back in June. Sticker price was $80K or so. However, when asked, they were easy to tell me the sale price was $65. We didn't bite, but gave them our info. I have had 3 emails from them since, each time the price is $3K less. Not sure if they are selling or not selling trailers. But with the high interest rates and inflation of prices over Covid. Prices are or were as high as ever, dealers seem to be willing to deal just to sell a unit.

Do some internet research to see what "sale" prices other dealers have on that unit. Offer them a similar price if you are comfortable with that and go from there. Or, try the 35% and see what they say. Most likely they will come back with a counter offer. But, I think the days of paying MSRP are gone for now.

Oops I posted this in the wrong area. It is a motorhome and I have always bought trailers in the past. I am sure there are some similarities in the buying process between MH and 5vers but I don't know about any subtle differences.

I suspect it was a 2008 Montana ? :) I too bought a new Montana at the same time ,the fall of 2007. I traveled from Utah to Indiana , I ordered a 2008 3400 RL from a dealer south of Elkhart , with several upgrades including the Onan 5500 . It cost me 43,700 . My local dealer would not even come close after giving him a chance , even within a couple thousand considering I had to travel to get it in Indiana . I too shopped all over the US before buying .

FWIW a close friend in PA wants a new Rockwood TT. He checked pricing all over to have one built with the specific options he wants. I told him to check with a local dealer here who is literally 5 miles down the road from the Rockwood/Flagstaff factory which ended up being the lowest price. A local dealer he found in PA matched that price. Rockwood / Flagstaff is one of the few that actually ship an MSRP document with every rig although it's usually the first thing the dealers hide. Those MSRPs are standard at any Rockwood dealer as well as the option prices also. What you don't know is how much cheaper dealer A gets his stuff than dealer B. The MSRP with options my friend was quoted is just south of $60K, his out the door price on his order tax and all is $41K. The supposed wholesaler in Ohio RVW, his 2nd best price, was $1.5K more and that was dependent on using said dealers financing.

Close. A new 2007 bought in July 2007.
