Witch dehumidifer to purchase?

Hey chuck. About 5 years ago I did a web search and picked one that was highly rated. Still doing a great job. I have also bought a lot of stuff from Compactappliances.com. decent prices, super quick delivery. I just put mine in yesterday.

Chuck get the biggest one your budget can manage. 70 to 90 pints

They help your AC in the summer, and keep down condensation in the winter

If it's only for storage, a little one will probably work, or a few buckets of damp-rid

The small cheap ones (EvaDry2200) can only lower the humidity in our rig to about 60%.
While the expensive ones (that use a compressor) can lower the humidity in our basement to 40%. We have it set to 1/2 way and it keeps the humidity around 50%

If your going to just use it for the "off" season, why not just by a couple of containers of "Damp Rid" you can get them at Home Depot / Lowes / Wallmart. W just get 1 of the large containers and 1 small one to put in our 5'er over the winter storage months, then just throw away and go. Good Luck and Happy Camping !!!

Damp Rid can only absorb about a pint of water. A real dehumidifier placed in the shower (so it can drain) will get rid of gallons of water each day.

Well the question to chuck is, for storage or while in use?

When we stored ours between trips here in the PNW, used Eva-Dry, recharged about every two weeks at the house (two miles from storage). Now that we full time we have a GE 30 pint from Home Depot, we have it tucked under the Kitchen table. we have not had window condensation or wall condensation yet staying on the Oregon coast.

Damp Rid and Dryzair create a solution that if spilled on wood or carpet, creates a spot that will always be wet.

The best method for removing humidity is location dependent. Here in Illinois for example, Damp Rid is an excellent solution. I used a big bucket in our trailer every winter and never had any musty odors come springtime. Unfortunately, the humidity of the Pacific Northwest winter would overwhelm the biggest bucket. Hence the need for a dehumidifier.

My unit is big and does not need to be. A smaller water collecting electric unit that will modify to drain outside is good. Home Depot has several. Read the reviews. Many are equipped with a hose connection. Yes, they will collect that much water. Set the humidity level at whatever you like and forget it.

Dryzair is good and fast but it won't keep up with the weather on the Oregon and Washington Coasts nor NorCal coast either. We don't normally camp there is the fall or winter but if that changes, I'll get a good dehydrator and keep it going in the shower. I bought the dryzair at Freddy's, it is not the same outfitters it was when owned by the original family. Knogers has made it into a poor copy of WalMart such a shame for the locals.

For winter storage I use a Davis Air Dryer in our 35ft 5th wheel and it keeps everything nice and dry. Has worked great for years!air dryer by Steve Herrick, on Flickr
