What I see as advantages of SD
1. No vehicle inspection
2. No proof of insurance to register a vehicle
3. Renew your registration online each year, mailed to you regardless of address
We do have insurance, and SD requires you have it, but not for registration purposes.
SD, TX and FL have similar laws on domicile meaning they accept a PO BOX as a legal address.
We didn't like the annual inspection in TX, meaning we would have to go there each year just for this, and the registration renewal process. Everyone is different.
