hitting road (almost)

sold house, will be moving out end of June. will be in campground for 6 months until wife retires, end of year. we are ready to try this full timing thing lol
  • Good luck with your adventure, we are not so brave as to sell up everything.
  • A few years ago we did the same thing, we sold the house we had for years and raised our family, it was just to big. We full times for 2 years and really like it. We wanted to get back close to kids and grandkids so we bought a small house on a lake and now are half timer, half the time on the road and half the time at the cabin. By the way all our kids have moved away to different states and no longer live by the cabin.

We did keep a few things and put in storage, only to find out they didn’t work out in the new place.
  • We are thinking of putting the house on the market next spring; but we will be looking for a condo in the lakes region of New Hampshire and spend summers there near our family, when we are not traveling. We will continue to Snowbird in Florida in the winter and that will mean heading south earlier and coming back later because the weather in NH is not like the coast of RI. We contemplated Full time and may have to do it for a short period but after reading these forums for a couple of years; I think it is best to have an escape plan in case health changes the lifestyle that we grow accustomed too.
  • My wife retires in October. We just bought our 5th wheel in prep for hitting the road full time. Working on selling everything including house by December. I am so excited about this next phase of life. Keep us updated on your progress. I will be interested in how it goes. My wife and I are talking about building a facebook page or something (I am not much of a tekie) to show our travels, life and love for friends and family to follow us.
    :B
  • Ropdoc,we use a blog we set up in WIX. Ours is private for friends and family. We include pictures and comments as we go. Our armchair travelers love it, our older family members who used to travel enjoy it and their memories. others are adding to their bucket lists.
We have been fulltiming for 5 years now and are happiest when the wheels are moving. sitting for 6 months makes me crazy.

Is that a website you load to?

I can't wait to get the wheels movin. I had been riding a motorcycle since I was in high school. Had to stop riding and sell the bikes last year because of my physical ability. BOY I MISS IT. I am so looking forward to seeing the US. To stand near the edge of the Grand Canyon or to experience a thunderstorm in the mid-west again. To be able to pack snow in my hands and throw a snow ball. I miss driving around an old farmer that is hogging the road. Or listen to kaddie dids screaming. Or to fish on the side of an old river chasing away the bugs. It is all about 6 months away. But I have lots to do to get ready. Hope to see lots of you folks on the way.

May God bless every breathe you take. Peace be with you
  • Wow what a awesome learning experience. My wife and I have been working hard to prepare to travel fulltime a minimum of a year. We are mostly debt free with exception of house, a car and odds and ends. No credit cards. Just ATM card. Put the house on the market 2 weeks ago. And we sign the offer letter tonight. Exactly what we asked for. Kinda wish we asked for more. But not to get greedy. We have been working so hard on the house painting and fixing and remodeling. I AM EXHAUSTED and all tore up. Sure looking forward to travel. Maybe a couple more months. Just in time for the cool season to start again. Woowho !!
