In Motion Satillite System for Motor Home

Will be buying a 2015 Thor Challenger next month and looking for feed back on "In Motion" Satellite systems.
I have read some (older comments) to the problems and service but have to wonder if it has improved now?
We will be Full Timers traveling at times with the grand kids and other family but mostly will just be the two of us.
The choices of in motion over stationary satellite systems is the question. How good is in motion and how often for those who have it, actually need it/use it?
We have yet received the options available and the price quotes for installation and set up that will be down at the dealer B4 pick up.
Any feed back will be greatly appreciated.

We used a King Dome for 7 years and really liked it. Made it very easy to find the signal when parking under trees because you could move around until the dome was receiving the signal, if a signal was getting through the trees, before you parked and setup.

However, HD is not available for DirectTV through a dome system. The wife wanted HD so we went to a dish. I still miss our in-motion dome.

Fulltimers. No more grass to cut, no more leaves to rake, and can move if we don't like our neighbors.

I have had in motion for a long time and had very minimum of problems created by mfg.
I am a NASCAR fan, so I us it to record the race if driving and use the audio from it like a radio.
To me it is a must have and it would be a king dome, the better service based on my friends and their sats/problems. HD/SD really don't matter to me when traveling.

My question to why is that sad! When you are traveling with an 8yr old and a 4 yr old and sometimes a 2 yr old having them watch TV, and others will use there DVD player to keep them occupied during the drive. I like to have the option of DVD or TV for them. I don't see nothing sad about this. Once we park that's a different story, we do games and other outside activities. I guess to each their own.....

I have a buddy that has had a dome on his motor yacht for several years. He has a Direct TV contract with it but could not get HD. Last winter he replaced the dome with another motion dome so he now gets HD Direct TV.

He said the system he just got wasn't available a few years ago. He also said it was a little pricey.

There was a comment that "domes" can't receive HD. My Winegard mini max receives all dish HD channels. We take one receiver from the house when we go. The Winegard mini max can be set to receive Direct or Hughes by changing dip switches. With Direct it is SD only. Winegard has super customer service.

All great feed back. The main point was to help keep the little ones occupied on a long drive, we have 6 grand kids the two little ones who need to be entertained are 2&4. (attention spans at that age are short LOL) The others 13, 16 and 20 and 24, they can read and enjoy the drive and interact better on a long drive.
Thanks to all of you we now understand there is no need for "in-motion"

Back in '55 I went on a train from Los Angeles to New York City. It took 3 days and I had my nose glued to the windows the whole time.

Really? The kids have to have TV? Is there is window anywhere in this vehicle?

Failing that, how about board games or something other than technology? Is there something educational? Do you have books or anything to read and discuss related to the places being visited?

Kids are into IPhones and games, besides camping/RV traveling is about the outdoors, campfires, fishing, hiking, not TV, just saying.

I have no satellite TV service and prefer life away from TV while traveling, but wifi is a must..

we have used it once in 9 years. The front TV can't be on when you're going down the road. The kids didn't want to watch TV they wanted video games. We connected XBox to the back TV in the BR and they played there. We also watched DVD's.
I would not spend the money if I were buying one today. We do like the dome satelitte but we don't care about HD.

"In-motion" usually means a "dome" system. Dome systems as a rule can't receive HD signals or all satellites. Trav'ler is one of the best things out there at the present for HD TV and it picks up all Dish and Direct satellites, however you must decide on which service you intend to use before buying as the Trav'ler comes in a different version for each signal vendor.

I donno, in motion tv for grandkids? Why not just put in a dvd for them...why do they need live tv? We have a collection of dvd's for adults and kids and whenever our grandkids go along with us, we strap them down on the couch and turn on a dvd of their choice.

As mentioned, dome in-motion is SD only...for me, HD is the only way to go and I therefore will have nothing but a DISH Trav'ler....if you have DirectTV, then there is a Trav'ler for that too, albeit a little more $$.

We started with a King Dome standard sat system and it had issues and I was able to have King Dome swap it out for a in motion sat and love it. We full time and never have had an issue, weather we are parked or if grandkids are traveling with us, keeps them occupied. We use Dish and yes with a portable you can move it if you are in a lot of trees but we just ask when we park in a CG that we prefer a spot for Sat and our needs have been met. I would suggest in-motion yes they cost more but well worth the extra $$$.

In motion can be useless in trees. Grest in west Texas. It is also limited to SD only if you happen to use Directv.
Get a Winegard Trav'ler you will be much happier at the end ofnthe day
