New site to connect with others

Community Alumni
Not applicable
I was informed (BeckyIO's Blog) of a new site for connecting with others. RVillage.com When you check in to an RV park you can see who is there at the time...email between. It is just a way to connect. The site is new in its Beta form. I have been on it and it shows real promise.

Just an FYI

Ditto. As soon as I read the following in the site's Terms of Service, I opted out:

"You therefore agree to give Site (as providers of the Site), a non-exclusive, transferable, royalty-free, worldwide licence to use any content that you upload, post or otherwise make available on the Site."

You may want to read the terms of service for this forum.

The Terms of Service are worse here:

By uploading User Content to any Public Forum or submitting any materials to us, you automatically grant (or warrant that the owner of such rights has expressly granted) Affinity and its Service Providers a perpetual, worldwide, royalty-free, irrevocable, nonexclusive right and license to use, reproduce, modify, display, adapt, publish, translate, create derivative works from and distribute such materials or incorporate such materials into any form, medium, or technology now known or later developed throughout the universe. In addition to the foregoing licenses, you hereby grant both Affinity and its Service Providers a perpetual, worldwide, royalty-free, irrevocable, nonexclusive right and license to use, reproduce, modify, display, adapt, publish, translate, create derivative works from and distribute such materials in connection with other web sites that make use of services provided by Affinity's Service Providers. You warrant that all so-called "moral rights" in those materials have been waived.

By comparison, www.rvnetwork.com (Escapees) doesn't even mention who "owns" user content in their Terms, while www.irv2.com only claims a "limited" use:

By posting content on the Websites, you also grant, and warrant that you have the authority to grant, the Company a limited license to display, reproduce, modify, and use any text, image, video, music, or any other content that you post on the Websites.

What I post is my 2 cents and nothing more. Please don't read anything into my post that's not there. If you disagree, that's OK.
Can't we all just get along?

As of a few minutes ago...6398 members.

We've already met and had lunch with a couple from RVillage as they passed through our area.

I like that you can see who's also at the same campground. An easy icebreaker and way to make new friends if you find you connect. If you like your privacy you can elect to hide your location.

I can see how this will be a useful tool for full timers since they might have more of an opportunity to meet people on the road.

This site is growing fast over 5,000 members. Will be interesting to see who we meet on the road.

I just signed up. We will be fulltiming stating June 1st, 2114. Looks like this could be a good resource if enough people sign up.

Ok, I signed up for RVillage, but I don't see how to search for others @ a CG..

When you log-in, you will be taken to your "Home Page" where you will see how many members are in the same campground as you.

With just under 4200 members, you will probably be the only member in that campground. When the membership numbers are in the tens of thousands you will see more.

Thee are multiple buttons on which you can click. Click on each one and discover what each button will do.

Have fun

Finally found it under "My Location". Thanks!

Also members, and long time technomadia followers.

Hit the explore link on the main menu, it will bring up a map centered on "your location" with many search choices.

When you search, it will show you all the members in that search location.

Thanks Ozark for the mention, glad you're enjoying RVillage. ๐Ÿ™‚

Bill - Journeyer is correct. You cannot see membership numbers without joining up. I believe they did this for privacy reasons, RVillage has a feature which is a map of where everyone who's made their location public is currently staying. This tool allows members to find other people with similar interests staying in their campground or nearby locations. I don't know about you, but I really wouldn't want spam bots and such being able to see my location, making it a sign up first thing keeps these information farmers off the site.

The forums aren't all encompassing like here on RVnet. Members can make and join interest groups, and those interest groups each can have their own forum. So for instance, there's a full-time RVers group on RVillage which you can join, and that group has it's own forum which is for discussing, surprise, full-time RVing.

It may not be for everyone, but I really like how RVillage is combining a traditional online RVing community with the ability to locate and meet up with other RVers who are nearby you for in person meetings. It's still young and it's hard to say how it'll pan out, but as a solo full-timer who is introverted and has a hard time introducing myself to strangers, this site holds a lot of potential for me. Like Journeyer, I am not affiliate with RVillage in anyway, I'm just a member who has enjoyed it so far.
